The Prep Baseball Report is the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in each state we cover through our variety of events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state.  While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

With our first premier event of 2018 three weeks away, we will introduce you to players who are registered.  Kicking off our look at Underclass Invitational participants is 2021 RHP Cole Martino from Pueblo County High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:

Martino: I am a right handed pitcher and corner infielder. I go out and give it all I have every inning of every game.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?

Martino: The University of Texas at Austin. I have liked them all my life and have wanted to be a longhorn all my life.

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Martino: On the field: I always play hard every game, and be the best teammate I can be. Off the field: I work hard in the gym, in the cage and most of all in the classroom. I do not get into trouble. I am dedicated to being the best player I can be. I travel an hour and 45 minutes one way 3 to 4 times a week to practice.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Martino: Always work hard no matter what and the you will have ups and downs, but you have to stay level not to get too high or too low.

PBR: What does your off-season routine look like to prepare for the upcoming season?

Martino: I workout at Redline Athletics 5-6 days a week on off season baseball strength, conditioning and velocity program. I take 10 weeks off from throwing once season ends (end of Oct to Jan 1). I am looking forward to starting back up with my pitching coach Byron Embry. We work together once a week Jan - March.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Martino: I am very superstitious. I throw the same bull pen routine before every outing.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season:   Increase my pitching velocity to upper 80's (left off topping 82 unofficially last fall). Go out and play hard and get better every day.

Two Years:  To be talking to college coaches to make the best decision to be committed to a college.  Continue to work hard and get better every day.

Four Years:  To be committed to a college that is the best fit for both of us and continue playing baseball and getting better to making my dream come true.

Scouting Report

8-5-17

A 5-foot-11, 183-pound right hand pitcher.  Smooth mechanics and arm action on the mound.  From balance he falls to the plate and stays on two feet during the pitch.  He throws from an over the top arm slot and falls across his body on the follow through. Velocity should increase as he grows and drives to the plate.  During the TPG he showcased an 80 MPH fastball which he located well away from the right hand hitter.  He was able to mix in a 65 MPH curve with 11/5 break consistently for a strike which made his fastball more effective.
