Uncommitted Spotlight: Ruben Castro

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

We continue our coverage of uncommitted players, spotlighting them to help maximize their exposure and assist them in the recruiting process. Today, we look at 2022 3B/RHP Ruben Castro (Tucson).

2022 3B/RHP Ruben Castro (Tucson)- If PBR Arizona were to make a list of "Under the Radar" prospects in the AZ 2022 class, Ruben Castro would most definitely make the list. In a different year, we would assume Castro would be off the board by now. In 2020, Castro was a member of Team Arizona at the PBR Future Games, featuring some of the top uncommitted prospects in each state. He also attended our 2022 Top Prospect Games earlier this past summer. Castro shows some above average all-around tools with strength & athleticism. Offensively, he has above average pop and has put on some displays of power. The ball comes off his barrel pretty nicely. There has been some slight swing & miss to his approach in the past with aggressiveness but his consistency at the plate seemed to have improved during fall season. He used the RCF gap more efficiently while showing some of the same ability to turn on inside pitches. Defensively, he has good arm strength across the diamond from third base with with some softness to his confident hands. He has even been known to jump on the mound here and there and work his FB up to 88mph. He made two spectacular plays defensively at this past years future games that scouts took note of during the event. If it weren't for having some D1 teammates up the middle on his HS & summer team, he would be a more than capable HS shortstop with the potential to stick at 3B at the next level. Castro athleticism and present tools should be followed closely.
