Uncommitted Spotlight: Payton Riske

We continue our coverage of uncommitted players, spotlighting them to help maximize their exposure and assist them in the recruiting process. Today, we look at 2022 RHP Payton Riske (Bishop Gorman).

Scouting Report: Wiry frame, displays athletic movements. Begins delivery on the far left side of rubber. Moves down the mound through an easy and repeatable delivery. Finishes well through target. RH thrower, quick and loose arm action. Displayed some arm side run on fastball, clocked up to 87 mph max spin rate 2123. Showed some feel for secondary pitches. Displayed good breaking ball, with abilities to command it for a strike, clocked at 68-73. Showed changeup, could develop into quality pitch in future, clocked at 72-76.

 




Scouting Report

8/29/20

 

Profile: 5-foot-10, 140 pounds. Still possesses a youthful build. Lean, athletic frame. Velocity should parallel size and strength gains. Big league bloodline. Already has above average feel each of his pitches. 

Delivery: Tall, narrow set up. Polished, smooth rhythm throughout his delivery. Tall/tilt type. Throws around a slightly closed front side landing slightly closed as well. Soft foot strike. Upright finish, tends to slightly fall to first base side.
Arm Action: 3/4 arm slot. Quick, loose arm action.

FB: Max 86 mph. 84 – 86 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 1963 RPM. Consistent arm side action with slight sinking action.

CB:  68-71 mph. Avg. Spin Rate – 1966 RPM. Works well off his FB. Sweeping action.

CH:  72 - 76 mph. Avg. Spin Rate – 1906 RPM. Comes out same plane as FB. Above average feel for pitch.

 

 

11/18 - Developing, 5-8, 115, Riske has a ton of life in his body.  His loose ¾ arm action and solid delivery accompanied by his feel to pitch were impressive. He pounded the bottom of the zone with a fastball and changeup mix, making quick work of the opposing hitters to close out the game.
