Uncommitted Spotlight: LHP Riley Cruce

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. Starting today, we will be spotlighting several uncommitted prospects to help them get the exposure they need to play at the next level.

Loganville has long been one of the top teams in Class 5A, winning the past three state championships. The Red Devils were once again poised to be one of the favorites for the state championship this season before it was cancelled. Today, we highlight one of the many standout arms that have helped them get to the top of the state, LHP Riley Cruce (Loganville, 2022). Cruce is a lean, athletic 6-foot, 180-pounds and will only continue to add to his frame as physically matures. The southpaw works in the low-80s with his fastball, topping out at 84 mph. Utilizing a high 3/4 slot, he gets plenty of sink and run on the pitch. Cruce offers up two breaking balls, a changeup and a curveball. His go-to is his changeup, which induces swing and misses regularly as he controls the zone with heavy fade and sink. He has feel for his breaking ball, as a third pitch, and throws it for strikes. Cruce is listed as a 2022, but will graduate in 2021 and take a gap year before enrolling in college in the fall of 2022.
