Uncommitted Spotlight: Nick Hagen

Scouting Report

2021 Outlook:
Hagen is a bat we saw in Lethbridge this past summer and immediately stood out in his BP rounds. Hagen has some twitch and feel at the plate and was able to move the barrel around the zone and work to all fields. When he's on time, there was extension and finish to the swing, and is the type of bat that will usually tick up once he adds strength to his 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame. Behind the plate, Hagen showed some quickness in the lower half on was on line with his throws from the dish. It's a short action out the crouch and can clean up the slot while keeping his body controlled and staying in his lower half. It will be interesting to see how the winter pays off for Hagen as there is a lot of untapped tools and actions to work with, expect to see this lefties numbers trend up in all areas.
8/19/20
5-foot-8, 165-pound sturdy frame. In the box, Hagen had an exit velocity of 85 mph. Starts in a balanced crouched stance with a small smooth load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is quick, shows level swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found lots of barrels with a lot of loud contact. Line drive approach. Behind the plate, produced pop times of 2.18-2.22, throw downs to second were maxed at 71 mph; showed athletic feet, consistent hands and a clean quick exchange. Some flexibility and staggered setup.Fluid in the infield, recorded a position velocity of 76 mph; has sure hands and a natural exchange. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a ¾ slot.
