Scouting Report

8/17/17 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed hitter showcased present pull side power and a bat exit velocity of 93 mph during a solid round of batting practice. Weigel starts from a square stance and incorporates a short stride and aggressive hip turn to initiate his swing. Went 2-for-9 with a double during game action over the weekend while making loud contact on several occasions. Continues to show progress in his development behind the plate turning in pop times of 2.01-2.10 on throws of 77 mph from the crouch.  Also shows capable actions around the bag at first base. Outgoing, vocal player that other players gravitate towards.

6/13/17 6-foot-2, 215-pounder stood out with his energy and enthusiasm for the game.  The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short stride to initiate his swing.  Registered a 92 mph bat exit velocity and went 2-for-5 with two walks in game action.  Showcased 75 mph arm strength from the crouch with pop time of 2.20-2.27 behind the plate.  Also displayed capable actions around the bag at first base as a viable second defensive option at the next level.

10/29/16 Physical 6-foot-3, 210-pound junior continues to show development, especially as a defender. Registered pop times of 2.12-2.21 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch with a clean transition and quick release. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and incorporates a short stride to initiate his swing. Has shown some pull side power at recent events and registered an 84 mph bat exit velocity on this date.

9/30/16 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed hitter who starts from a square stance and incorporates a short stride. Showed some feel for staying inside the ball and creating backspin during his BP round, although he tended to get around the ball and hook it during game action. Long and strong with 85 mph exit velocity. Posted workout pop times of 2.09-2.22 and showed a short release when his transfer was clean. Would benefit from quieting glove action prior to receiving the baseball.

7/20/16 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed hitter utilizes a controlled leg-lift stride to initiate a balanced swing with solid feel for the barrel. Registered an 88 mph bat exit velocity and went 1-for-3 in game action on day one. Displayed capable defensive actions with a top pop time of 2.20 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch. Physical rising junior also showed solid feet and a soft glove hand at first base.
