Uncommitted JUCO Spotlight: Ray Ochoa

As the JUCO season starts to wind down, we'll be highlighting several players from across the state's junior college programs that impressed at our scout days this fall and are having strong seasons for their respective clubs.

Today we'll shine some light on sophomore RHP Ray Ochoa (Mineral Area JC), who was excellent for the Cardinals this spring in their 35-win season. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound right-hander hurled 64 innings for Mineral Area in 2023, punching out 71 batters with a 2.81 ERA and .208 batting average against.

Ochoa attended our Mineral Area JC Scout Day in the fall, comfortably pitching in the upper-80s with his fastball, though we've heard he's climbed higher on the hill this spring. He landed a mid-to-high-70s slider for strikes consistently in that 'pen and featured a hard-running changeup at 79-81 mph, too.
