Unsigned Senior Games

Furr is 5-10 with a stronger athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, loads back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Kept hands inside, short and quick to the ball with some strength at contact and extension through the ball. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing that generates carry in the gaps, showed a primarily pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, rounds ball and plays through it, fielding with soft hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a free arm action, outfield velocity was 83. Showed accuracy on his throws. Ran a 6.88 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a longer arm action that is free and quick, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball 80-82, with some downward plane and a bit of late run to armside. Curveball was 65-67 with good armspeed and sharp 1/7 break. Change-up was 74-75 with good armspeed and some fade to it. Ability to throw all three for strikes.

VA/DC Scout Blog

Furr has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball sat 78-80 and touched 81. Change-up had good armspeed and heavy run, pitch was 72-74. Breaking ball had bigger gradual 1/7 break and was 66. Struggled with a tighter strike zone, nibbling along the edges and walked five of the eight hitters he faced. Feel for three pitches is there, he just needs to be more aggressive attacking the strike zone than he was in this game.

Preseason All-State I

5-foot-11, 170-pound solid frame. Square stance hitting from the left side with simple mechanics. No stride, just a simple heel pick up to put down with hands making a short load back with a slight wrap. Hips fire first and showed some nice usage of the lower half. Path was quick to the ball with extension through contact and an exit velocity of 85 mph. In the outfield showed short active footwork on approach catching the ball between the feet before exchanging cleanly at center. Arm action was clean and threw from a three-quarter arm slot at 80 mph. Home-1st time was 4.21. Low effort mechanics with a small rocker step to a consistent balance point moving down the mound with shoulders level. Lands on line and finishes in a solid fielding position. Arm is clean and quick throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball was 78-81 with some arm side run. Showed feel for the curveball and had 1/7 shape and sat at 59-62. Changeup showed some late arm side fade and solid armspeed at 65-69 mph.
