The spring season is already starting out in some areas of the country with others eyeing the calendar for opening day. Players continue to show off their advancements throughout the off-season at winter workouts, and college coaches are taking notice as they gather names of players to follow throughout the spring and summer. The return of, In the Weeds, will serve as a follow-list of uncommitted players in the 2020 class for college coaches to look through. These players, each exhibiting the ability to play at some level in college, may have gone overlooked in the past, made recent jumps, or possesses some skill that can help a program in the future.

Eduardo Saucedo SS / 3B / Oregon, WI / 2020

There are many times when scouts can get so caught up in metrics and projections, that it becomes easier to lose sight of the actual production and fundamentals of the game. Saucedo may be a prime example of this thinking. His 7.54 60-yard dash time is not indicative to his overall value as a player. The left-handed hitting infielder has exhibited the ability to produce both at the plate and in the field against top-tier talent. Athletically built at 6-foot, 155-pounds, Saucedo possesses some present strength at the plate, though he still shows signs of packing on a significant amount of strength in the future. Loading his hands deeper, down and back with a slight leg hang, his barrel features some whip through the zone on a slightly uphill plane as he produces some gap to gap power that is likely to increase as he continues to mature. On the infield, his smooth style and confident hands allow him to make all the routine plays while featuring an accurate throwing arm. While his footspeed may deter some schools, his sure-handed accountability will likely be welcomed by others. Add to that the fact that he shows little issue handling high-end arms while at the plate, and his impact on a program down the line may be bigger than expected.
