Throughout the month we look to highlight some of the top uncommitted talent. Below we would like to showcase three uncommitted 2015 middle infielders for everyone.
Top Uncommitted Class of 2015 Middle Infield Prospects
5-foot-11, 170-pound athletic build. Brett is a solid athlete across the board and uses his foot speed to eliminate any questions about him being able to stay in the middle of the field. He ran a 6.7 multiple times and his speed does transfer to the bases. He has plenty of arm strength and his glove certainly can improve but he shows signs of it being above average. Layman handles the pivot fine and will adjust easily at the next level. Layman is a top or bottom of the order player. He shows good pull side feel with the barrel and has shown signs of spreading the field. He should be a gap-to-gap player at the next level.
Gerritt Merrill, Nauset Regional, 2015
5-foot-11,185-pound middle infielder. He has potential to be a two-way player as well, showing velocity and spin on the mound. At shortstop he shows above average arm strength and the ability to handle the glove. His pivot work needs cleaning but is one that should get cleaned up. He has average range and shows good off-the-ball skills. Offensively, he needs to get stronger and commit to using the whole field. The barrel head works and should be productive with strength.
5-foot-8, 160-pound true defender in the middle of the field. His glove is well advanced, shows the ability to really get off-the-ball and his arm has plenty of strength to handle the middle of the field. His actions and game experience lead you to believe he can be a plus defender at the next level. Offensively, he is in the need of strength as you can gather by his size. With time, he will make himself into a good, productive offensive contributor. His approach and bat plane will have to improve for him to be a really special player.
