On Tuesday, June 15, the PBR Illinois and Missouri scouting staffs hosted the annual Top Prospect - St. Louis event in St. Louis, MO at the Lou Brock sports complex on the Lindenwood University campus. This invite only event fielded a total of 35 athletes from Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas that primarily represented the 2022 graduating classes, although a handful of 2023s also attended.

Shortly after the event’s conclusion we published our Quick Hits piece - a rapid analysis of those performances that stood out from the day. Today, we’ll take a look at those that popped from a statistical standpoint from the traditional data we gathered last Tuesday. We’ll continue to dive deeper into the analytics and data we accumulated with the help of our TrackMan and Blast Motion partners, so be on the lookout for that stuff as the week rolls on.

For now, let’s highlight a few statistical standouts from this particular event:

+ Williamsville’s OF/C Hunter Moser (2022) put together arguably the most impressive athletic performance of the day. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Moser kicked his day off by comfortably running the fastest 60-yard dash from this group of position players at 6.76 seconds, nearly a full .2 ticks higher than the next fastest time. He finished with the second highest top outfield velocity at 83 mph and led the catcher crop in arm strength (77 mph) and average pop times (1.87-1.92).

+ INF Zac Fruend (Lutheran St. Charles, 2022; MO) has some physical tools attached to the projectable levers on his 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. Fruend controls his body well, especially for his size, and ran a 7.07 in the 60-yard dash. He showed advanced arm strength on the infield for someone his age, topping out at an event-high 85 mph across the diamond. Fruend’s levers produced some whippy barrel strength in the box and his hardest hit ball left his barrel at 92 mph.

+ Representing the 2023 class, SS/RHP Dominic Voegele (Columbia) had a strong all-around showing in his PBR debut. The projectable, quick-twitchy 6-foot-2, 175-pound Voegele is an above-average runner for his age, clocking a 6.94 in the 60-yard dash. His hardest hit ball came off the barrel at 94 mph, tying for the second-highest mark of the entire event. Voegele topped at 80 mph across the infield and his arm plays on the mound too, bumping his fastball up to 85 mph in his ‘pen.

+ SS/3B Max Harris (Marquette, 2022; MO) is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound athlete that also impressed throughout his workout. He ran a 7.07 in the 60-yard dash, the fourth-highest of the event, topped at 79 across the infield, and barreled up the hardest hit ball of the day at 96 mph during his BP round.

+ Built at a proportionally strong 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, OF Parker Davis (Fort Zumwalt East, 2022) recorded the hardest throw from the outfield of this event at 84 mph and squared his best batted ball up at 94 mph, per TrackMan.

+ RHP/INF Jackson Chu (St. Charles, MO; 2022) is a strong 5-foot-11, 195-pound athlete with physical tools that show on the diamond. Chu tied the aforementioned Fruend for the hardest throw across the infield all day at 85 mph and later reached back for 88 mph on the mound with his fastball. Chu also squared one up at 93 mph during BP, per TrackMan.

+ On the mound, RHP Joseph Swanson (Pekan, 2022) came away as one of the biggest winners from the event. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Swanson is a projectable athlete from a physical standpoint, but he brings some high-octane heat to the mound as well, leading the event in max fastball velocity at 89 mph.
