Tim Hunter
VP of Operations

It was a historic preseason here in New York with our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff covering 700+ players at showcase events, all February long. The dust has settled and we are now ramping up our efforts in player rankings, scouting reports, and recap articles. While the outcome of the 2020 HS season is on hold, the Prep Baseball Report (NY) will continue to provide unrivaled coverage for the amateur baseball players in the Empire State.

As we continue our follow up of the Preseason Tour, we will be highlighting "Top Performer Spotlights" on players who recently stood-out at our preseason events. Stay tuned with us for the latest information on the 2020 spring season and beyond.

Scouting Report

Physical: 6-foot-1, 205-pounds. Strong, long build.
Run: 7.44 runner in the 60.
Hit: LHH. Tall, upright stance with hands above shoulders, level bat, brings hands back on load along with a small stride Hands clear the zone quickly, barrel is direct to the ball, swing is level through the zone with slightly uphill finish.
Power: 89 MPH raw exit velocity. Stays up the middle and to pull side gap.
Defense: Gets low with the ball, works from the ground up, soft hands, smooth footwork laterally.
Arm: Medium arm swing with a low 3/4 slot. INF - 82 MPH.

Standout Skill
To me, Raymond's ability to crush a baseball. You're looking at a guy who isn't fully incorporating his lower half, yet puts a good jolt into a baseball. Nice smooth swing, everything is repeatable and relaxed. More power to come as he develops as a player.
Player Projection
Good power coming from his bat and with his frame, 6-foot-1, 205-pounds, could make for a good looking corner infielder. Minor fixes to a couple fielding aspects of his game and his bat continues to get stronger, solid 3B for sure at the next level.

Quick Hit
"Hitting wise for Raymond I feel like he is too tall in his stance, I would like to see him get more in his legs to utilize all the power that he is. In some swings he is struggling to to hit the low pitch at his knees and that's where pitchers are told to make a living. Defensively, I want to see more fluidity at either position he sticks with. Not so much the footwork side of things more the glove work. "
