Prep Baseball Report

Top Performer Spotlight: 2021 SS Dylan Tierney (Columbia)

Tim Hunter
VP of Operations

It was a historic preseason here in New York with our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff covering 700+ players at showcase events, all February long. The dust has settled and we are now ramping up our efforts in player rankings, scouting reports, and recap articles. While the outcome of the 2020 HS season is on hold, the Prep Baseball Report (NY) will continue to provide unrivaled coverage for the amateur baseball players in the Empire State.

As we continue our follow up of the Preseason Tour, we will be highlighting "Top Performer Spotlights" on players who recently stood-out at our preseason events. Stay tuned with us for the latest information on the 2020 spring season and beyond.

Tim's Take

Physical: 6-foot-2, 177-pounds. Tall lanky build.

Run
: 7.54 runner in the 60.

Hit
: RHH. Tall stance; keeps chest and hands up; medium leg kick; power to the pull side; quick hands through the zone. Utilizes slight incline in his swing path to hit the ball in the air.

Power
: 80 MPH raw exit velocity. Strong through the ball to generate power with a high finish to create leverage.

Defense
: Active feet with smooth movement through the ball.

Arm
: Effortlessly strong 3/4 arm action. INF - 78 MPH.

Standout Skill
I'm a fan of his fielding; everything is smooth and under control, fields the ball out front with a quick transfer, and able to change his arm angle when needed.

Player Projection
With his size I see him more of a corner guy, I would love to see him do some defensive work at 3B. Shows the power with the bat, smooth glove work, ability to play vertically, and on the run are all tools he has.

Quick Hit
"Would like to see more of the lower half incorporated in his swing, not so tall. Acceptable hands to get through the zone to generate good whip. Tierney's ability to get low with such a tall frame and move laterally as smooth as he did make it fun to watch. "
