Top 10 Profiles of 2022: No. 3 Seth Benes

By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

With the year coming to an end, our staff is taking some time to highlight and reflect on the most viewed profiles in Missouri throughout 2022. We’ll be working our way to the top spot, starting with No. 10 earlier last week and working our way down, releasing the most viewed name on New Year’s Eve.

Our profiles serve as an all-in-one platform for players, hosting vendors such as verified stats, event video, contact information, and more. To create a free PBR profile, click HERE.

Cracking the top three of our ‘Most Viewed’ list this year is RHP Seth Benes (Liberty-Wentzville, 2023). The Indiana commit is amongst the state’s top senior prospects and has, on a routine basis, proved that to our staff.

This year started off for Benes in February, where he came away from our Preseason All-State event as one of its best arms. He showed a true three-pitch mix there, pumping his fastball at 90-92 mph, spinning his breaking ball at 2600+ RPM, and effectively limiting spin on a low-80s changeup from a near release to his heater. His scouting report from that day:

Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-2, 192-pounds. Physical and projectable build.
Delivery: Quick rocking footwork around the rubber working to an easy pivot foot.  Quick pace and smooth rhythm throughout the delivery.  Works to a high balance point with a strong weight stack onto the back leg.  Hand breaks from the glove at the top of the delivery.  High glove front side with repeatable mechanics.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides slightly closed to the third base side creating tough angles on hitters.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 arm slot with a clean arm action.
FB: T92, 90.9-91.9 mph. Strong riding life through the zone with some arm side running action at times. T2273, 2159 average rpm.
CB: 71.4-73.0 mph. 11/5 shape with very tight spin.  Makings of a true swing and miss pitch. T2694, 2580 average rpm.
CH: 81.4-83.4 mph. Kills the spin efficiently with some arm side fading action. T1567, 1459 average rpm.

Benes pitched like an ace during the high school season, logging a 1.79 ERA across 47 innings of work and a perfect 9-0 record. He fanned 80 batters, walked only 22, and showed out as one of the top arms in the St. Louis area. That momentum carried into the summer, especially at our up-close look at Benes. He worked the zone comfortably with three pitches yet again, earning high praise from our scouts following the Midwest Premier Super 17:

“…Benes showed his usually impressive stuff in a brief outing for the St. Louis Prospects last weekend. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed pitched at 86-90 mph with his fastball and showed polish for his secondaries, something we’ve become accustomed to seeing from him at this point. Benes, who’s physical stature and family pedigree on the diamond make for a relatively high future on the hill, is one of the top arms in Missouri’s 2023 group.”

Committed to Indiana, Benes will look to conclude his prep career this year with a promising finish - one that should garner pro attention in the spring.
