Top-10 Profiles of 2021: No. 9, Christian Oppor

By Andy Sroka
Illinois and Wisconsin Assistant Director

As we approach the end of 2021, we're taking account of the PBR Wisconsin player profile pages to determine the players in our backyard whose profiles earned the most attention throughout the year. We're counting down the top-10 profiles in the state that received the most views, from No. 10 and on, concluding our countdown on New Year's Day by revealing the most-viewed profile of the year.

Coming in at No. 9 on our list, Columbus LHP Christian Oppor, is ranked No. 3 overall in the state's senior class, No. 251 nationally, and is still uncommitted. The southpaw is one of the state's best athletes, and he shows it well from the mound, as he's able to fluidly and naturally reach premium velocity with little effort, raising a considerable ceiling onto his long-term value as he continues to develop and mature.

NO. 9: CHRISTIAN OPPOR

Scouting Report

11/22/21

Uncommitted Senior Spotlight: Christian is a lean, explosive athlete out of Wisconsin that’ll be 17 on draft day. Standing at 6’1 and running his fastball into the mid-90’s, it’s easy to imagine the left-hander signing out of high school. Utilizing a drop and drive style with very aggressive rotation, the arm comes through eye-catching speed. Christian is one of the few arms running up premium velocity while clearing his glove outside the frame. His impulse moment may be as large as any in the Midwest -  when he gets better at capturing this explosiveness, his fastball will rise. His second best pitch would be his changeup, which possesses high degrees of movement for the type, and a curveball that spins above average, with below average movement. When the movement correlates with the spin, this pitch will deepen his ability to put away hitters at the next level. Over multiple looks this fall, it appears that he’s made significant progress chipping away at repeating his delivery. To the untrained eye, one might miss the differences between his mound moves this summer, and film from his last outing of the year. It’s fair to say Oppor has made significant progress in 2021, and has been building momentum heading into the 2022 signing window.
