Top 10 Profiles of 2021: No. 3 Colin Barczi

By: Peter Hamot
Area Scout

Colin Barczi comes in at No. 3 for the most viewed profiles of 2021 after an eventful 2021 campaign. Currently at Naperville Central, Barczi helped to lead the Redhawks to an overall 22-5 record and a final PBR Power 25 ranking of No. 23. Barczi would continue to prove himself into the summer and fall, showing extremely well for Team Illinois at the PBR Future Games and at the PBR Midwest Fall Championship. Barczi made his first appearance into the Illinois rankings back in January, with a first initial ranking of No. 27. After his impressive 2021 showing, the Vanderbilt commit catapulted all the way up to No. 6 in Illinois and No. 166 in the PBR National Rankings

It is hard to find someone in Illinois with a more raw set of tools than Barczi. The right-handed hitter possesses some of the most impressive bat strength in all of Illinois, recording a max exit velocity of 104 mph and consistently finding the barrel to make hard contact with his violent swing. Barczi takes his reps defensively behind the plate, showing off an extremely strong arm with a max velocity of 83 mph and top pop-time of 2.00. One of the most intriguing parts of Barczi's game is his athleticism; as a 6.69 60-runner, Barczi offers versatility at the next level to potentially play multiple positions around the diamond.

We will see what this coming year has in store for the future Commodore as he looks to have an even more successful 2022 season.

Verbally committed to Vanderbilt.

4/22/21

6-foot-2, 200-pound, broad-shouldered, athletic, strong build, right-handed hitting catcher. One of the top uncommitted prospects in the 2023 Illinois’ class. Features well above-average tools across the board; 6.69 60 (plus run time for his position), 83 mph from the crouch and 104 mph exit velocity. Creates plus bat speed for his age and has some of the best jump off the barrel in the state, regardless of the class. Smoked an RBI backspin line-drive double in the first inning that did not get more than 10 feet off the ground and rolled all the way to the right-center field wall; 4.54 on the turn. Unorthodox setup but gets his hands and body in a good position to hit during his load. Loose, athletic strong hands and stays inside the baseball extremely well. Has shown well above-average power to all fields in the past. High-level right-handed bat. Defensively, continues to make improvements behind the plate. Sure hands, works to present pitches on the corners of the plate. Clean and easy out of the crouch and arm flashes plus. Pop times of 2.01, 2.06 and 2.08 in between innings. Also, showed instincts throwing behind a runner who had rounded second base too far; quick release and strong throw right on the bag for the putout. High-level 2023 prospect.
