Top 10 Profiles of 2019: No. 10 Keenan Taylor

As we are nearing the end of another calendar year, we have compiled a list of the top 10 most viewed Indiana player profiles this year.  According to our research through our google analytics, these are the most viewed profiles by you the reader in 2019. 

Coming in at No. 10 is 2020 SS Keenan Taylor of Guerin Catholic HS. The Butler recruit has steadily moved up the rankings list throughout his high school career, making his way into the Top 25 of Indiana's class of 2020 rankings. One of the best overall hitters in the class, Taylor recently recorded the top exit velocity of all Indiana 2020s registering 103mph twice at last weekend's Hoosier Holiday Showcase.

Scouting Report

12/14/19: The overall top prospect at the event was 2020 SS Keenan Taylor (Guerin Catholic HS). The Butler recruit has added at least ten pounds of muscle since the last time we saw him, and his strength has made a difference in all facets of his game. He started off the event by running a 7.07 in the 60-yard dash, taking off almost of a full tenth from his previous best time of 7.16 last February. He showcased above average arm strength in both the infield & outfield (88 mph) with carry on his throws. The biggest difference his added strength has made was offensively. Taylor recorded a high exit velocity off the tee at 103 mph, and that power translated to his BP session where he showed elite barrel control with loud contact and gap-to-gap power. 

6/11/19: 5-foot-10, 175-pound SS with a 96 mph exit velocity. Starts in a slightly open batting stance with his hands low; uses movement in hands for timing; has slight load and separation. Has a line drive swing plane and a clean, two-handed finish; consistently hit balls all over the field; shows good power at the plate. In the field, moves to the ball aggressively; fields cleanly; has a quick transfer; 87 mph position velocity. Shows confidence and athleticism with quick feet and a strong arm. Recorded a 60 time of 7.20.


2/16/2019:
Keenan Taylor, SS/OF, Guerin Catholic HS, 2020, 5 foot 10, 175 pounds, ran 7.16 with a 98 mph exit velo. Hits from a balanced set up and has a simple load to generate plus barrel speed. Swing path works down to flat and he barrels consistent line drives. Did not throw at the event but did show actions and footwork.

6/12/18: Athletic 2020 MIF prospect. Hits from right side quite actions in the box. Athletic setup in the box as well. Short and simple bat path to the baseball, showed good bat speed also posted an exit velo of 92. Used the whole field during BP with line drive approach. In the field showed good range, footwork is quick with a relative long exchange across the diamond. Arm strength is average at this point at 78. Ran a 7.25 60. Interesting 2020 MIF who has a nice tool set that can improve with added strength to frame.

4/4/18: Spring Scout Blog: Sophomore leadoff hitter uses plus bat speed in the batters box to drive the baseball, led off the game with a triple to the pull side gap. Consistent loud contact, has widened out the setup and works short to the baseball, still strong and physical enough to drive the baseball. Strong setup and advanced approach for age, average runner. Finished 1-3 at the plate, 2 runs scored with 1 BB. Started at second base, shows some arm strength across the diamond, chance to stay in the middle of the field with continued development of the glove and arm strength. Solid player in the 2020 class, ranked #50 in the state.

2/24/18:  5-foot-9, 165 pound infielder has fast bat speed with a line drive approach.  Gap to gap power.  Fluid rhythm with plenty of loud contact.  High exit velocity of 90mph.  Above average hands with a long transfer.  Flat footwork.  Throws topped 82 across the infield.  Ran a 7.4 60 yard dash.

2/24/17:  5-foot-9, 165 pound infielder continues to impress with the bat.  Simple swing with a quick barrel.  Wide setup, fluid load.  Above average use of lower half.  Stays on plane.  Able to use both gaps.  Potential power as he continues to fill in.  High exit velocity of 90.  Defensively, hands are above average with long transfer.  High 3/4 slot.  Throws topped 82 across.

12/16/17:  5-foot-9, 165 pound infielder moves well side to side with above average glove work. Clean transfer into high 3/4 release.  Plays through the ball.  Has added arm strength across the infield by topping 84mph with some accuracy.  Right-handed hitter has a balanced setup with smooth load.  Long stride, above average use of lower half.  Quick barrel turn.  Level path, produces consistent line drives.  Uses all fields.  High exit velocity of 83.  Ran a 7.51 60 yard dash.

6/13/17:  5-foot-8, 155 pound infielder continues to impress in the batters box.  Twitchy barrel, explosive lower half for his age. Lots of hard contact in batting practice.  Competed against older pitchers.  Creates some lift at contact, good extension after contact.  Plays with flat footwork defensively.  Clean transfer from above average hands.  Throws topped at 75 across the infield.

2/25/17:  
5-foot-7, 145 pound infielder displayed a balanced setup with long stride and back load.  Lower half is used well.  Bat speed is fast for age with a level plane.  Consistently barreled the baseball.  Gets extension post contact.  Defensively, hands are above average with a clean, long transfer.  Has an extra shuffle step before release.  Throws were accurate topping at 75.  Plays through the ball well.

12/3/16:
  The 5-foot-5 140 pound middle infielder showcased quick footwork and smooth hands.  Plays thru the ball.  Short, loose arm action with throws that topped at 70mph.  Offensively, Taylor hits from an athletic crouch with smooth rhythm.  Compact swing with line drive approach.  Sprays the ball to all fields.  Exit velocity topped at 79.
