Scouting Report

6/06/21

6-foot-3, 172-pound. Projectable left-handed pitching prospect. Works at a slower tempo using a chest high lift and counter rotation prior to the stride. Fastball works out of a 3/4 slot at 79 to 81 mph on a downhill plane with slight cutting action. Shows good feel for a sharp 1 to 7 slider at 69 to 72 mph.

Checks all the boxes scouts are looking for physically in a prospect. The southpaw has a 6-foot-4 frame with endless projection left. Very long, loose arm with well above average arm speed. Lower half and delivery in general has cleaned up noticeably since we saw him last summer. Fastball sat in the 85-87 mph, touching 88 a handful of times and 89 mph once. Although velo is already premium from the left side he shows physical signs of having more in the tank. Fastball is his go to pitch but he also sprinkles in a breaking ball as a change of pace. Size and velo alone make him a sure fire D1 prospect and if that breaking ball comes a long he could work his way into the elite of his class.

One of the more interesting LHP in this class features a tall, lengthy frame with a lot of upside. He has above average arm speed and a live arm that comes through a ¾ arm slot. Kline also has a feel of using his body to get the most out of his frame. We saw Kline working down in the zone with all 3 pitches. Ran the fastball up to 83 mph. Curveball was the most impressive secondary offering, with late, sharp action and a 1/7 shape to it. His changeup had a little arm-side run to it and dropped slightly before reaching the plate. Kline is a sure arm to watch for as he continues to mature and fill out.
