Since June we have been on the go running showcases, tournaments and scouting events around the state every week and weekend in the summer. Through our travels we have seen hundreds of MIF's, ranging from the graduating class of 2020-2018. Here's a look at some of the MIF's that really caught our eye this summer at our events. NYS Games - June 25-27, 2017




Scouting Report

NYS Games (June 25-27, 2017) Athletic 6-foot-1, 165-pound projectable build frame will hold more. Offensively - strong, quick hands get the bat through the zone on a level plane with a slight upper cut for an exit velocity of 90 MPH - down 3 MPH from February but still impressive, repeatable motion, scratching the surface with lower body engagement which will produce further power. Defensively - soft hands, smooth and poised, agile, quiet feet, easy transfer with an infield velocity of 84 MPH (up to 87-89) from all angles. Recent commitment to George Washington.

NYS Games (June 25-27, 2017)  Athletic 5-foot-11, 155-pound infielder, ran a 6.94/60. Offensively - Keeps hands inside ball and bat on level path through the strike zone, gets full extension after contact with an exit velocity of 81 MPH; repeatable motion, drives the ball to all fields, evident lower body engagement, further counter rotation between upper and lower half will produce more power. Defensively - Soft hands, confident body language, agile footwork, smooth and easy transfer, accurate arm at 81 MPH..

NYS Games (June 25-27, 2017) Solidly-built at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, ran a 7.47/60. Offensively - effective load out of an upright stance, short to the ball, keeps bat on level path through the zone with full extension after contact for an exit velocity of 85 MPH, lower body engagement will produce more power. Defensively - fundamentally sound, basic footwork, sure hands, smooth transfer for a position velocity of 83 MPH. Pitching - uses to get downward plane on fastball at 80-82 MPH, positive hip tilt at the balance creates effective transfer of weight, effectively changes eye level, throws 12-to-6 curveball at 66-69 MPH for strikes, spots change-up at 72-74 MPH.

NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)  Athletic 5-foot-9, 160-pound middle infielder, ran a 7.34/60. Defensively - agile footwork, confident body language, aggressive mindset, soft hands, smooth and easy transfer, accurate arm at 80 MPH. Offensively - switch hitter, keeps bat on level path with full extension and exit velocity of 78 MPH from right side and 73 MPH/left side; repeatable motion, tends toward pull side, lower body engagement will add to power. Numbers have not caught up with his projected potential yet, expect for a big coming out party on the baseball field this spring.

NYS Games (June 25-27, 2017) Slender 5-foot-10, 150-pound MIF, ran a 7.51/60. Offensively - out of a nearly upright stance, keeps hands inside ball and bat on level path through the strike zone, full extension with an exit velocity of 77 MPH; repeatable motion, counter rotation between upper and lower body will add to power. Defensively - clean footwork, sure hands, smooth transfer, accurate arm at 79 MPH. Continues to improve the more we see him. Definitely building a strong resume for the next-level. Look for Ortiz to breakout in 2018.

NYS Games (June 25-27, 2017) Athletic 5-10, 160-pound infielder, ran 7.47/60. Offensively - active lower engagement triggers hips, stays inside the ball, drives to the middle third of the field with an exit velocity of 85 MPH, further counter rotation between upper and lower half will add to power. Defensively - soft hands, active footwork, smooth and easy transfer, accurate arm at 80 MPH. Improved foot-speed and over strength will help sail Poirier into the next-level.

NYS Games (June 25-27, 2017) Athletic 6-foot, 175-pound shortstop with a 7.32/60. Offensively - keeps bat on a level plane through the zone with a compact swing and repeatable motion with an exit velocity of 83 MPH; stays middle third of the field with a slight upper cut; further lower body engagement will produce more power. Defensively - fluid and agile footwork, makes smooth transfer from glove to throwing hand with accurate arm at 81 MPH.




Canisius - July 5, 2017




Scouting Report

Campus Series-Canisius (July 5, 2017)  Marasco stands in at 5-foot-10, 155-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.48 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up slightly open with his feet just outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat just above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a stride forward squaring up with the pitcher while his hands move back into the hitting position. Cuts off his lower body rotation by having a short turn on the back foot. More aggressive rotation with the back knee and foot will allow him to generate more power in the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 81 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to the baseball. Good fielding mechanics with his funnel into the chest and transition to the throwing hand. Takes good aggressive footwork towards intended target and moves well left/right and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 78 MPH. Overall a good 2019 grad prospect to keep an eye on for continued development.

Campus Series-Canisius College (July 5, 2017)  Falter stands in a 6-foot-0, 155-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.88 home to first. Offensively- Switch hitter that has near identical mechanics on both sides. Sets up square to the pitcher with a wide stance and a slight knee bend. Has an upright torso holding the bat above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick raise of the front foot to a quick short stride forward while his hands move back slightly into the hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting whole body frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands both from both the left and right side getting the barrel to the hitting zone with a level bat path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage on both sides with the ability to drive the ball into the gaps. Recorded an exit velocity of 82 MPH on the left side and 79 MPH on the right. Defensively- Good approach and footwork getting to the baseball. Has good fielding mechanics with a good funnel into the chest and a quick transition to the throwing position. Has aggressive footwork towards intended throwing target with accurate throws. Moves well left/right and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 84 MPH. Overall a definite future collegiate prospect in the 2019 grad class to keep an eye on.



St. Bonaventure - July 11, 2017

Campus Series - St. Bonaventure - July 11, 2017 Hendershot stands in at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.67 home to first, slightly off of his 4.47 posting last week at our Canisius Campus Event. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet just outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with his torso leaning forward towards the pitcher holding his hands just above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise into the body to stride forward while his hands move back and down slightly into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing his hips and using the whole body in the process of the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with an upward lift barrel action throughout into a high two-handed follow through. Demonstrated consistent solid contact with good plate coverage driving the ball to all fields during batting practice round. Showed more pop in his swing this week hitting the ball with authority to the gaps and spraying line drives foul line to foul line. Recorded an exit velocity of 90 MPH, tying his personal best. Defensively- Continues to show a fluid approach and footwork getting to the baseball. Shows good fielding mechanics funneling the ball into the chest and a quick transition to the throwing position. Has aggressive footwork towards intended target and is accurate with throws. Moves well left/right and in on the run. Can make the athletic play. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 83 MPH, up 2 MPH from last week’s Canisius Campus Event. Continues to improve off impressive numbers.




Marist - June 25, 2017




Scouting Report

Marist Campus Series (July 25, 2017) Athletic 5-foot-8 150 pounds with some quick twitch actions. Offensively- Balanced setup with feet even feet, controlled take back complimented by a short stride for timing. Line drive stroke through the middle of the field; swing path is short into the zone with a cross body finish. Exit velocity peaked at 81 MPH. Defensively- Active feet to and through the ball, hands work out in front with a funnel back to the body. Arm strength is suitable from the left side (81 MPH), despite being listed primarily as a 2B. Controlled actions, makes the play on the move and showed lateral range.
