Zac Cain (Plymouth, 2015) is a long athlete with highly projectable tools. His lanky build stands at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. Offensively hits from the left side with a balanced stance and short stride. His hands work with bat speed present showing line drive, gap to gap tendencies. Cain is an athletic hitter and has produced 87 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Defensively he plays with a loose arm action at 72 mph across the diamond. His feet work athletically and runs the 60 at 6.93.
On the mound Cain also shows some projection. He uses a tall and fall delivery with regular effort. He has a short backside arm action from a ¾ arm slot. His fastball showed consistent sinking action with control at 78-80 mph. His curveball flashed 12/6 action at 67-68 mph and also featured a changeup at 69-72 mph.
According to Cain he has been receiving widespread interest at different levels from a number of schools including West Virginia, Eastern Michigan, Maryland, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Ohio University, Kansas, Kansas State, UCSB, UCF, USC, Elon, Michigan State, Valporaiso, Alabama State, Indiana Tech, Viterbo, Harvard, Cardinal Stritch, Brown University, Quincy, Morehead State, Northern Iowa, Barry University, Dixie State and Metropolitan State.
Although he hasn’t made any visits yet Cain is hoping to make a decision before his senior season and says,
“I would like to attend an institution known for academic and baseball excellence. I would like to play where the development of baseball players and young men is of high priority.”
Cain led Plymouth to a 24-4-1 record last season, winning their regional and being selected to First Team All-State. Expect much of the same out of the left handed hitter as he heads into his junior season.
