Prep Baseball Report

Statistical Notes: ESC at Greensboro Grasshoppers

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR of NC

Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina was on hand for the ESC Showcase weekend in Greensboro at the Grasshoppers stadium from Friday June 26 - Sunday June 28.  Teams representing four organizations each brought two teams, a 2021 team and a 2022 or 2023 team.  The round robin format created a competitive environement throughout the weekend.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the stadium would not allow parents inside to watch.  With PBR of NC's new ability to live stream in HD, the teams brought PBR in to evaluate the games and stream them to coaches, scouts, and parents.  The live stream involved three HD camera, each with a unique tight view, as well as a full field view which incorporated an LED board reading velocity from a Stalker Pro SII radar gun.

In the coming days, notes from PBR scouts in attendance will break down players from each club in attendance.  Below we take a look at the stats collected by PBR and some of the leaders from each category.

CLICK HERE to see stats collected from players in attendance.  Not every player in attendance is represented.  This was strictly game play so defensive metrics were limited to pitchers and catchers.  Run times were limited to home to first, and PBR only noted competitive run times, where a batter-runner was working to get down the line on a ground ball to an infielder.

Statistical Leaders

Home to 1st Times

PBR scouts were able to collect home to 1st times on batter-runners that gave a competitive run time to first base on ground balls to an infielder.  There were run times thrown out if a player was not competitive down the line.  The best run time for each player is listed in the statistical overview of the event.

Catcher Pop Times

Throughout the event, PBR scouts worked to grab pop times between innings and live in game.  The pop times listed below are a compilation of the times collected.

Max Fastball

Arms are evaluated in a variety of ways but velocity will always be a way to peak the interest of a coach or scout.  The radar gun was live throughout the entire 3 day event.  Below are the top recorded fastballs from the ESC event.
