St. Rita Storms Back, Defeats Lemont

CRESTWOOD, IL – Standard Bank Stadium opened its doors once again for the Do It Stevie’s Way memorial tournament. On Wednesday evening Crestwood played host to St. Rita and Lemont in a 10-run rule shortened contest. The Mustangs of St. Rita used a nine-run fifth inning to aid their slow start and down the Lemont Indians 13-3 in six innings.
In the fifth, the Mustangs sent 13 men to the plate and scored nine of them. The nine-run inning featured six hits – all coming with two outs. Pinch-hitter Michael Botthof posted an RBI double in the inning. Four of the other five hits in the frame were run-scoring singles.
Lemont began the scoring in the third with a Bobby Wisz run-scoring triple, plating two runners. Wisz came around to score the third run of the inning on a wild pitch. The Indians took a three-run lead into the fourth behind starter Sean Haughey.
The Mustangs closed out the game with three in the sixth forcing a run-rule, headlined by a Frank Napleton triple, a two-run single by Matt Callahan and a single by Noah Miller.
Napleton, Callahan and Miller posted two-hit performances. Jake Zylman reached base all four times.
Mustangs right-handed pitcher Dan Brannigan picked up the win. Brannigan tossed five innings surrendering three runs on three hits with three walks and two hit-by-pitches.
Wisz, a junior and sophomore Nick Muscolino both finished 1-for-3 with a triple for Lemont.
The Mustangs and Indians will finish out the Stevie’s Way tournament – seeds and games are still TBD.
