St. Charles North Rallies To Earn Third Place In 4A

JOLIET, IL – No. 8 St. Charles North scored four runs in the fifth inning to upend No. 2 Plainfield North, 6-5, in the Class 4A third-place game Saturday at Silver Cross Field. The game was called after the sixth inning due to time limit leading up to the Class 4A state championship game.
The third-place finish was the North Stars’ first state trophy in school history.
Purdue-bound right fielder John Legare delivered the game-winning blow in the fifth inning with a two-run single. Legare also hit an opposite-field home run to right field to stake the North Stars (33-7) to a 1-0 advantage.
Blake Saltsman ignited the rally in the fifth with a leadoff single. Luke Corcoran and Zach Mettetal had back-to-back run-scoring doubles in the fifth off Plainfield North reliever Connor Peplow.
Plainfield North (33-5), which was the Prep Baseball Report’s preseason No. 1 team, earned its first state trophy in school history as well.
The Tigers scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning thanks to two North Star errors and three hits.
