Under The Radar 2019's

Shooter Hunt

This week, In the Weeds looks at some intriguing, uncommitted players in the 2019 class. Not all burners on the base paths, or physically advanced, these players all show the ability to play the game the right way, and are pieces that can help a team at some level in college. They are high-energy infielders, powerful corner bats, and a quick-armed pitcher. Players included hail from Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, New York, and Texas.

Leighton Keller 2B / SS / Saint Xavier, KY / 2019

Keller plays the the game with lots of energy, and has the athleticism to compete at some level in college. A 6.82-runner with a wiry, 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame, Keller will give a coach at some level multiple options on where to play him in the field. Though he shows signs of being an adequate infielder with a quick first step, solid hands, and an accurate, 84 mph arm across the diamond, his speed will also give the option of play some in the outfield. The right-handed hitter has a simple approach at the plate where he sets up in a crouched stance. With a short stride and minor hands load, his barrel works fast through the zone on a level plane, culminating in a two-handed finish. He demonstrates the ability to hit line drives to all fields while focussing primarily on the middle of the diamond. Overall, Keller just finds a way to get the job done, and as he continues to fill out his athletic frame, he could help a program at some level.
