Headed over to Jesuit last night for the 5A Regional Semifinal between the Naples Eagles and Jesuit Tigers. This matchup saw Wes Mendes face-off against Johnny King. There was quite the crowd last night as both teams' fans showed out and tensions were high in this pivotal matchup. Michael Graziano would leadoff the game with a single but Mendes erased the single with 3 strikeouts in the inning. The Tigers wasted no time getting their first run on the board after Mendes reached on an error and Jake Kulikowski drew a walk followed up by a Grant Jordan RBI single.

The Tigers would add an additional run on a well executed 1st/3rd. Mendes worked around a walk in the 2nd to put up another scoreless frame. Jesuit looked to be in business again as Zane Pestalozzi led off the bottom half with a single but King struck out 2 to end the threat.

Naples biggest threat thus far came in the 3rd as they would load the bases on 3 walks but Mendes once again got a huge strikeout to end the inning. Kulikowski and Noah Sheffield would single in the 3rd for Jesuit but the Tigers couldn’t add an insurance run. Both pitchers settled in, King for Naples and reliever Wilson Anderson for Jesuit, working clean 4th and 5th innings for their respective teams.

Witmer came in relief for Naples and Derek Westfall for Jesuit. Both pitchers put up 2 scoreless frames as we headed to extras. After 2 quick outs it looked as if we were headed to a 9th frame but a 2-out single would extend the inning. Enter Noah Sheffield and in poetic fashion, he ended the game on one swing, like father like son.
