- Hillcrest @ Gaffney -
The PBR Scouts kicked off this weeks action by taking in the first game of a region 2-5A series between the Gaffney Indians and the Hillcrest Rams. The Indians have been up and down to this point but have some young talent capable of putting together a good performance at any time. The Rams are playing very well and came into the week 5-0. They have some key players in College of Charleston recruits Trotter Harlan and Matt Parsons. This one ended up being pretty one sided in favor of Hillcrest and ended with a final score of 12-2 Rams in 5 innings.
Deonte Smith (OF, Hillcrest, 2020) - Uber athletic two sport athlete gives off a next level out field profile. Showed excellent range from the CF position and avg to slightly above avg HS arm strength that will improve with additional development. The LH swing is short as he muscles the barrel through the hitting zone, there is plus power potential evident by the balls he hit into the gap and the home run he just missed foul to the pull side. Reportedly a high end football recruit.
Trotter Harlan (SS, Hillcrest, 2019) - Medium strong frame with present skillset that will translate to the next level. Good mixture of power and speed. Arm strength will allow him to stay on the left side of the infield and his offensive skills will produce a solid all around mixture of avg and power potential. Showed excellent range fielding a ball deep in foul ground behind 3rd. College of Charleston recruit.
Matt Parsons (1B, Hillcrest, 2020) - Lean athletic profile that will support additional weight with future development. Was hit by a pitch his first two at bats this game before ending the day with two doubles and four RBIs. The power potential is just starting to evolve and will only get better. Solid defensive ability around the bag at first. College of Charleston recruit.
Brayden Davidson (C/1B, Gaffney, 2020) - Large profile with a thick/strong lower half. Really liked the energy, hustled out of the box, looked like he enjoys the game. Moderately large stride, swing can trend to the long side at times. Raw power is his best tool. Played first base this game, was solid given limited sample size. Florence-Darlington Tech recruit.
- Northwestern @ Rock Hill -
Our second game of the week was the cross town rivalry between Rock Hill and Northwestern. The Bearcats and Trojans have two traditionally strong teams and this year should be no different. Rock Hill took this game 7-2 but Northwestern was able to take 2 of the 3 games in the region series. These wins for NW could prove critical late in the season when the playoff push reaches a critical stage.
Dylan King (RHP, Rock Hill, 2019) - Slight profile with a shorter torso and limb length. Competed above the measurable. FB was 81-82 and controlled in the lower half of the zone and mixed well with a 70 mph CB. Bulldog mentality. Guilford College recruit.
Dustin Noller (RHP, Northwestern, 2020) - Medium frame with a fairly proportional build. Has some whip to the arm action. Worked with an 81-84 mph FB for the entirety of his outing topping out at 85 in his first inning of work. He worked around the zone with a three pitch mix of FB, CB, and CH.
Noah Chapman (OF, Rock Hill, 2019) -Well rounded athlete with a medium strong build, has not reached the ceiling yet developmentally. Showed off a short swing with pullside line drive tendencies. Hands are quick and the bat speed will increase further with added strength. Confident feel for the barrel and good bat to ball skills. Solid-avg defender. Erskine College recruit.
