Rookie Review: '23 SS/RHP Michael Rodriques (Sharon)

Ted Williams
Director of Scouting, PA

Throughout the preseason we'll be highlighting top newcomers with our Rookie Review installments. There was a loud impression made at the Preseason All-State Central from a standout Junior in the class. The power-framed right-hander has a chance to pitch with an aggressive fastball at the next level and might be able to swing it, too.

Scouting Report

What We Liked: The 6-foot-1, 200-pound two-way prospect ran a 7.14 60-yard dash at that size and showed off high-level body control across the board. A loud batting practice round produced exit velocities up into the 93 mph range, while finding barrels (42% sweet spot) and skying the ball for distance to the middle of the field (333 foot distance). Then the durable right-hander recorded one of the better bullpen sessions of the event with an aggressive fastball that ran up to 88 mph (held 84-87). The slider featured an aptitude for spin at 2300+ rpms and though it moves short and late at the moment, it has the makings of a future out-pitch down the road. Was able to kill spin on a quality CH that faded at 18 inches to the arm-side (1700 rpms).
