WILDOMAR, CA. - The Road to the California State Games began at the inaugural Riverside County Preseason All-State held at Elsinore High School. Players descended on the field to show their fall/winter progress in the leadup to the spring season just a few weeks away. The invitation only event drew over 200 requests which was narrowed down to the 80 participants selected.

Players were put through a customary pro-style workout that included a laser-time 60-yard sprint, a round of batting practice, a defensive workout that includes double-play turns for infielders, and concluded with bullpen sessions for pitchers. We purposely did not include games because we didn’t want to put pitchers who aren’t ready to face live hitters in that situation.

As we dive deeper into our notes and videos we will release more post-event content. Earlier we released our Quick Hits highlighting 20 early standouts, the Statistical Analysis and now we'll take a look at the pitchers from the event. Other names were included in out Quick Hits.

PITCHERS:

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - long and lanky 6-foot-4 195 pound frame. Released from a pure over-the-top arm slot with a short arm swing in the back enabling him to hide the ball well and create some deception. Fastball sat at 77-80 mph with a downward plane. Curveball lacked consistency at 68-70 mph but showed some potential to be an out pitch. Change-up sank at 71-73 mph but struggled to command the pitch and keep out of the dirt. Raw pitcher with a projectable frame that needs to work on using his entire frame to create more power towards home plate.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - athletic build with a strong lower half in a 5-foot-11 165 pound frame. started his bullpen out with a running start max effort throw to home at 90 mph. Showed consistent mechanics and repeatability throughout his showing. Fastball sat comfortably at 85-86 mph and showed that he is able to locate the pitch to both sides of the plate. Commanded a slider with a tight break at 73-75 mph. Featured a change-up with dive and fade at 77-78 mph, commanded the pitched well and released the pitch with the same arm action as his fastball. Consistency and command coupled with a quality three-pitch-mix make this right-hander a viable high school arm.

Scouting Report

Arm speed and arm action stayed consistent throughout his showing which kept his pitches consistently in the zone. Fastball hovered at 82 mph from an over-the-top release point and short arm swing. Featured a 12/6 curveball with quality spin and break at 67-68 mph and a clean change-up that worked off the same arm path as his fastball at 74-75 mph with dive and fade. Above-average feel for his off-speed pitches give him starter potential down the line with room for more.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - average pitchers build with a sturdy lower half in a 5-foot-10 170 pound frame. Soft-tossing left-hander with good overall feel for pitching. Pounded the zone with a three-pitch-mix from a high ¾ arm slot and showed mechanical repeatability throughout his showing. Fastball showed arm-side-run at 74-76 mph. Breaking ball showed slurve action at 62-63 mph with the ability to give left-handed hitters fits. Change-up sat at 68 mph with arm-side-run. High school left-hander with a feel for pitching that can give any team innings and get outs.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - long and lanky 6-foot-4 180 pound right-hander with raw talent. Consistent loose and whippy ¾ arm action throughout his bullpen showed potential for more down the line. Fastball showed carry through the zone at 86-88 mph and topped at 90 mph. Off-speed pitches were erratic and in need of mechanical adjustment to make the next step. Slider showed some depth at 75-76 mph but failed to show consistency or repeatability. Change-up showed similar to his fastball but with more fade at 79-81 mph but lacking the ideal speed differential from the fastball. Intriguing power high-school arm that will garner Division 1 attention.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - The right-hander showed good movement with all three of his pitches in a solid pitchers build at 6-foot-1 175 pound frame. Two-seam fastball at 76-77 mph featured significant arm-side-run and showing command of the pitch to both sides of the plate. Curveball was slow and loopy at 66 mph with the type of action that could create timing issues for the opposing hitter. Change-up looked like an extreme version of his two-seam fastball as it showed heavy arm-side-run but played up with late parachute fade at 73 mph. Movement on his pitches will keep this right-hander relevant on his high school pitching staff.

Scouting Report

Riverside Co. Preseason All-State: At 6-foot-3, 185-pounds Aude looks like a different player from the one that attended the IE Future Games Trials last summer. He appears slimmer yet stronger and that physical refinement is showing in his swing at the plate where he appears looser and freer in the lower half allowing him to get the barrel through the zone quicker and more consistently from the left side. Showed hints of his potential raw power to the pull side with a consistent middle approach. Catch and throw has also improved as he appears quicker in his lateral movements and recoveries. Presents a quiet glove out front without a lot of body movement. Hopped on the mound where his stuff is raw but projectable with a loose, compact arm. Fastball is clean and tight without much movement. Flashed command of the pitch while working in-and-out with it. Maintains the same high 3/4 slot on all pitches which makes his changeup play up as it comes from the same tunnel and out front release point as the other pitches. Curveball was sharp with late depth when thrown with conviction.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - small build with twitchy actions in a 5-foot-9 165 pound frame. Strike thrower with a three-pitch-mix with good overall balance. Releases from an over-the-top arm slot and keeps his arm path consistent throughout his throwing motion. Fastball at 82-84 mph with some downward plane and carry but lacks movement. Curveball broke with tight movement at 63-66 mph and twice broke off a sharper curveball at 68 mph. Change-up showed sink at 75-78 mph with the same arm action as his fastball. Engaging the front side more would increase the effectiveness of his pitch arsenal immediately and could make this right-hander an immediate viable pitching option.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - long and lanky left-hander possessing a 6-foot-3 165 pound frame with lots of room for growth. Fastball featured some run at 69-72 mph and was able to show the pitch to both sides of the plate. Curveball broke on an 11/5 plane with slow loopy action from a repeatable arm swing and still head. Change-up ran and sank at 66-67 mph but with too close of a speed differential to differentiate enough from the fastball. Added strength and an increase in arm speed will greatly help this left-hander.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - athletic frame with room for more in a 6-foot-1 165 pound frame. Middle-infielder that can pitch too. Showed classic arm action and mechanical profile of a position player. Released from an over-the-top arm path and repeated well. Fastball was straight at 81 mph but the short arm path in the back enabled him to hide the ball well. Flipped a slider over at 66-68 mph for strikes. Change-up showed some fade and sink at 71-73 mph. Utility player that showed he can get on the mound and compete.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - Average build with long arms and twitchy actions in a 6-foot 167 pound frame. Corner infielder with point and shoot style mechanics. Extremely short arm path with a tight pause in the back before release. Fastball was straight with some downward movement at 77-78 mph. Featured a slow and loopy curveball at 60-64 mph for strikes. Change-up was repeatable at 67-68 mph but lacked swing and miss movement. Did a nice job keeping his head still and repeating throughout his showing. Raw pitcher with room for more and could become a solid bullpen option down the line.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - Funky right-hander with a solid frame at 6-foot-2 175 pounds. Unique mechanics create deception and show potential for off-setting hitters timing. Released his three-pitch mix from an over-the-top arm slot with a slight pause in the back and a big leg kick. Fastball showed carry at 75-77 mph and looked harder than it read. Showed good command of his 12/6 curveball at 63-64 mph. Change-up shows above-average potential with parachute fade and control at 66-67 mph. Room for growth and likely velocity gains make this funky right-hander an interesting pitcher to watch.

Scouting Report

Riverside County Preseason All-State - small stature at 5-foot-6 120 pounds gives this 2023 right-hander lots of room for growth. Hides the ball very well and commanded the zone throughout his showing giving him starter potential down the line. Fastball at 65-67 mph showed some arm-side-run to both sides of the plate. Commanded a loopy curveball at 57-58 mph and a change-up with good speed differential from his fastball at 56-58 mph. At times tried to be too fine and yanked the ball out of the zone with his frontside showing that inline mechanics and trusting his ability are his keys to his success.
