The new year is finally here, and with it comes the countdown to pitchers and catcher, and ultimately, opening day. This week, On the Hunt, looks at seven right-handed pitchers (or possibly two-way guys) that coaches across the country will want to highlight on their list to see during the spring and summer. Some have big velocity. Others are projectable with quick, loose arms. All will have a chance to play at the next level. Players included are from Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.

Colten Keith 3B / RHP / Verrado, AZ / 2020

Keith jumped on the scene at a recent PBR Arizona event where he demonstrated the ability to potentially be an impact, two-way player at the next level. Athletic with a proportionally strong, 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame that features long limbs and room for more in the future, Keith showcased a possible power arm on the mound with strength (94 mph exit velocity) at the plate. Standing tall on the rubber, the right-hander remains compact with some polish throughout his delivery as he repeats his high ¾ slot with ease. Creating an imposing downward angle, Keith works his fastball to the bottom of the zone at 86-88. His shorter arm swing allows the ball to come out quickly, and his hand speed works the same on his slurve-type pitch at 70-73 that features tight rotation and sharp break when at its best, but is still somewhat a developing pitch. His best secondary pitch was his late-sinking changeup at 79-81 that he throws with fastball hand speed, and shows confidence in. At the plate, the left-handed hitter has a flat barrel through the zone and strong wrists. He utilizes a big leg kick to generate hands movement before working uphill through the zone with quick hands. In the field he exhibits adequate hands and footwork to go along with a strong, accurate arm. A 6.99-runner, Keith’s athleticism should allow him to continue progressing at a rapid rate. Overall, Keith should draw plenty of interest from recruiters moving forward, and his potential as a two-way player will make him a valuable asset to any program.
