Q&A with Wichita State Commit Jerson Martin

TEXAS - As we wait for the high school season to get underway, PBR Texas is going to be doing Q&A's with some of the top players in the State. We will be discussing their recruiting process and their upcoming High School Season. In our 3rd Q&A, we sit down with 2023 Jerson Martin. MArtin is a Future Game alum and recent Wichita State Commit.








OUR Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

MartinI was looking for a place that felt like home more than just the looks of the facility’s. I wanted for the coaches at the school to be fit to my needs for my progression as a player.

PDid location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

M: No

PWhen did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

MIt really took off my freshman year. At the area code games in California

PWhat do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

MI like the coaches and what they have done and what they are able to do for me.

PWhat other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

MUniversity of Houston and UC Santa barbara

PWho is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

MJayson Jones. He is good at everything he does on the field.

PAt what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

M: When I was a freshman and made varsity.

PWhat advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

MNever give up and work for your self. No body else matters.

PWhat is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

MGetting to come together and play with some of the best talent in my state at the PBR futures games. Had a great time!

PPreview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

MI think we are capable of winning our district and I hope more.
