Q&A With Oregon Commit JT Rican

JT Rican (Bishop Blanchet) offers perhaps the most intriguing power/speed combination in this Pacific Northwest senior class. Athletically built at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds with proportional strength attached, Rican gets the most out of his body and it certainly translates to on-field tools. At our Upperclass Northwest Preseason Invite last February, Rican motored his way to 6.57 in the 60-yard dash and followed it up shortly afterward with a 101.6 mph max exit velocity and 382 ft. peak batted distance, per TrackMan. Rican earned an invitation to play for the Royals squad at this year’s Area Code Games and he’s a top-15 prospect on our Washington 2022 state rankings.

Committed to Oregon, we spoke with Rican about his recruitment process, favorite baseball memory, and more. Our conversation, found below.

OUR Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Rican: My expectations for my recruiting process was that it was going to be very hard, and require a lot of poise and even mental strength because it is very challenging. I was looking for a program and university that makes me feel at home with not only the baseball program, but with the school and social aspect of it.

P: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

R: No, for me it was whatever school felt like home, and felt right with me and my family. Distance wouldn't change the feeling of being at home.

P: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

R: The recruiting process really heated up for me after I posted fast 60 yard dash times, and I think Twitter did a huge part with that. Oregon first saw me play the summer going into my sophomore year.

P: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

R: What I like about Oregon are how engaging and determined each and everyone of the coaches are for you individually and for the good of the program. Key factors in making my decision were the actual school part of it, coaches, and atmosphere.

P: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

R: I'm really excited with our team this year. We are coming off a league championship, and we have a great base of upperclassmen and underclassmen who are all hardworking and determined to play a huge role in our team's success next year.
