Prep Baseball Report Iowa
Bryce Kearns, RHP, W. Central Valley, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Iowa Central CC?
KEARNS: I chose Iowa Central for several reasons: I really connected with the coaching staff, the stability of the program, and the facilities were outstanding.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
KEARNS: Concordia- Nebraska, Upper Iowa, Concordia- Minnesota
PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
KEARNS: They first saw me at the IHSAA Junior Showcase. When I went on my visit there, we just connected with what they expect in players and the accountability needed to play at the college level.
PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
KEARNS: I will accept whatever role they need whether it be the ace or being a bullpen pitcher. I just want to help the team win.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
KEARNS: My parents for being able to give me the opportunities and for always giving me chances to play against top competition and my high school coach for his relentless help and determination to get me ready for the college level and what they will expect.
PBR: What have you worked on/ improved since last year?
KEARNS: My pace. I always use to rush everything and never really controlled the speed of the game resulting in mental mistakes and breakdowns. I have worked on the mound taking a couple of breathes and really slowing it down to where I can control the situation.
PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.
KEARNS: Don't let coaches take you for granted. They need you just as much as you need them. I loved being around the energetic coaches and it made the visit a lot more fun and made me feel like I would be a good fit there.
