Q and A witn 2013 Tiffin Commit: Kyle Montell (Pickerington North HS)
October 7, 2012
Kyle Montell, RHP, Pickerington North HS, Class of 2013
PBR: Why did you choose Tiffin?
Montell: I chose Tiffin because it is just what I'm looking for in a school - ideal class sizes, a great campus life and, of course, Coach Wilkins and his excellent coaching staff. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the team my freshman year.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Montell: Ohio University, Bellarmine, Ashland and Marietta College
PBR: Where did Tiffin first see you compete?
Montell: Coach Wilkins came to my very first game for Pickerington Post 283 this past summer, and we've stayed in contact since then.
PBR: Coach Wilkins is beginning his first year at the helm as the Head Coach of the Dragons. How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?
Montell: It feels great. Coach Wilkins is a great coach and cares a lot about his program. I'm very proud to say I'm a part of Tiffin baseball.
PBR: This past summer you participated in PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase. How did the event help you in your recruiting process?
Montell: It helped get some other schools interested in me.
PBR: What kind of role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Montell: Coach Wilkins and his staff see me coming in to the pitching rotation my freshman year
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Tiffin?
Montell: My biggest strength as a player is to always give my all no matter the situation. I believe this is how Coach Wilkins and his staff work, as well as the team, so I feel having this common work ethic can help us reach our goals.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Montell: My parents definitely had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. Growing up they've always supported me and have been at every game since day one.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?
Montell: In the summer I play for the Pickerington Post 283 legion team. The most memorable experience was winning a State Championship and advancing to the Regional’s in Midland, Michigan.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Montell: There are so many great hitters in Central Ohio that I have faced, so it is hard to single out just one.
