Q and A with 2014 Alma College Commit: Nick Swanson (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep)
January 28, 2014
Nick Swanson, 1B/RHP, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Alma College?
Swanson: I chose Alma College because I really felt like I fit in with the team and the school. It was a tough decision between Hope and Alma but I felt like Alma was the best fit and saw how bad they wanted to compete. I really felt like I would get a good opportunity to play and be a big impact for them.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Swanson: Kalamazoo, Hope, and Goshen.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Swanson: The coaches expect me to come in and compete for time. They think I can be an impact player for them and be someone in the middle of their lineup
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Swanson: My parents have made the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. My parents have always been there for me, encouraging me, and making sure I never gave up on my dream to play college baseball. Without them I would not be where I am today, a successful baseball player.
PBR: What are your expectations for Notre Dame Prep this year?
Swanson: I expect us to be able to compete with Bishop Foley in our division. We lost a couple seniors but picked up three transfers from St Mary's and Clarkston. We lost a heartbreaker to St Mary's last year in the District finals and made it to Comerica Park for the Catholic League championship. I expect us to come out this year and be ready to compete for the District title and further and give Bishop Foley a run for the division title.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?
Swanson: I play for the Michigan Bulls in the summer. My most memorable moment is me hitting the go-ahead run in from second base on a line drive single up the middle in extras to move on to the championship game at Cincinnati. We went on and won the tournament despite several injuries.
