Q AND A WITH 2015 MINNESOTA COMMIT: COLE MCDEVITT [EASTVIEW HS]
PBR: Why did you choose University of Minnesota?
McDevitt: It’s a dream to be a Gopher. The program is rich in history. The coaches have always treated me well. The university has everything I was looking for and being close to home was a huge plus.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
McDevitt: I feel fortunate and am excited about my decision to be a Gopher.
PBR: How does it feel to be a Gopher?
McDevitt: It feels good. I’m excited to get there. But still have many things I would like to accomplish in the present.
PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way; what are your individual/ team goals?
McDevitt: I play QB this fall in football- have hockey this winter- and baseball next spring. I want to do everything I can to help each team be successful. If the team succeeds I’m happy to be a part of it.
PBR: How does it feel to know you will be a Division 1 player?
McDevitt: Making the commitment motivates me to work harder. College is filled with bigger and better players and I still have a lot of things to do if I’m going to be successful at that level.
PBR: What person has had the greatest impact on your baseball career?
McDevitt: My dad coached me in baseball until I was 14. He’s always been a huge help with everything I do. He has stressed how to act and carry myself the right way. Also how to handle adversity in sports and life.
PBR: Who are some of the better players you have played against?
McDevitt: Two that stand out are Matt Fiedler who was a freshman this past year at U. of Minnesota and Dalton Lehnen, a 2014 grad, who is committed to U. of Cincinnati. They both have good stuff on the mound, were able to pitch, and were very competitive.
PBR: Any last thoughts?
McDevitt: I wouldn’t be able to do any of this if it wasn’t for the people around me. Family, friends, coaches, etc. I just try to work hard and challenge myself. If it wasn’t for them helping and supporting me I wouldn’t be in the position I am today and I can’t thank them enough.
