The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff recently sat down with North Pike right-handed pitcher/shortstop to discuss his recent commitment to Jones County Junior College. Below is a transcript of our question and answer session:

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Killingsworth: I knew that it would be a fun time getting to talk to different coaches and hear about different programs.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Killingsworth: Location or distance did not play a big role in my decision. As long as the school felt like home I was fine leaving.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Killingsworth: They saw me at the State Games of Mississippi and contacted me shortly after I decommitted.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?
Killingsworth: I would have to say Brandon Smith, because he is solid on the mound, plays in the field and as a right handed hitter can drive the ball to all fields.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were an elite player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Killingsworth: I became serious about playing college ball when I played some varsity my eighth grade year. That's when I knew I could go somewhere in this sport.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Killingsworth: A program that made me feel at home and that also had a winning tradition.

PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Killingsworth: I think my love for the game is my best attribute. I have a positive attitude when I play and I feel like that helps everyone around me as well.

PBR: What part of your game needs the biggest improvement, why, and what will you do to improve it?
Killingsworth: My goal is to hit more doubles so I think me impacting the ball with more authority is definitely and area of improvement. I will work on hip flexibility and continuously trying to do the little things right that will help me get better.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Killingsworth: I would encourage younger players to do all of the little things right. To listen to your coaches, and to respect the game.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Killingsworth: I work tirelessly in the weight room and hit in the cage at least 5 or 6 days a week. After two months of no throwing I will then start a throwing program we do at my high school.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Killingsworth: The thing I liked the most was the connection I felt with the coaches, and the history of their success.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Killingsworth: Meridian Community College, Southwest Community College, and Pearl River Community College
