Progress Report: SS/RHP Ryder Wagenknecht
January 21, 2020
We got our first look at Wagenknecht in May 2019 at the Underclass Games at LakePoint. The two-way prospect impressed our staff with his explosive actions at the plate. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder has added a considerable amount of strength to his broad frame with no signs of stopping or losing any of his athleticism, as evidenced by his 6.88 60 yard dash.
With the added muscularity to his frame, Wagenknecht has taken his whole game to a new level. At the plate, he uses a power, pull approach, looking to elevate and do damage with each swing. His power approach has seen significant gains, increasing the exit velocity of his power approach from 84 mph to 91 mph. In the field, he now possesses an above-average arm, as his throws show carry at 89 mph across the diamond. The arm strength displayed on the infield translates well to the mound, where Wagenknecht uses a mid-80s fastball, topping out at 86, and a changeup with heavy fade.
