Progress Report: LHP Jackson Kent

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

As we dig through the players and numbers from this past winter, we are taking a look at a "Progress Report" feature that highlights players that have shown significant improvement in their game; whether it's on the mechanical end, performance wise, physicality or in the measurable statistic department. The "Progress Report" can be a minor improvement in recent months or a substantial transformation over time. Today we take a look at:

Scouting Report

Most Recent Event:
Preseason All-State (2.9.20)

Previous Event:
All-State Games (7.2.19)

Crunching The Numbers:

FB Velocity (Peak): 86 mph (Previous 82 mph)

FB Velocity (Range): 83-84 mph (Previous 78-81 mph)

What Did We See?
Kent, a 6-foot-3, 192-pound, wide-shouldered junior, has long been a projectable left-hander with feel for the mound. Over the past six months Kent has gotten fully healthy and his velocity has started to tick up. At this winter's Preseason All-State Kent sat a comfortable 83-84 mph, touching 86 all while showing feel for a three-pitch mix, including a deep breaking ball at 66-68 mph. Kent is a 2021 uncommitted left-handed arm to follow moving forward.

Stay tuned over the next couple of months as we will continue to check-in on prospects throughout the state of Illinois who have made noticeable improvements to their games.
