Preseason Preview: Palmyra HS (District 3)
February 11, 2013
By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting
The Palmyra Cougars went 14-8 in 2012 with a 9-5 Mid-Penn Conference record. Gone from that roster are five DI and DII baseball players. What remains for first-year coach John Karavage to work with is a group of players who have worked very hard in the off-season to learn to play the game the right way. A lack of power hitting will force the Cougars to play some small ball in 2013 in order to return to the state playoffs. Following is a look at those players who will likely make an impact on the Cougars' fortunes this season.
Class of 2013:
- Tyler Morder - 5'11", 160-pound RHP/OF who is one of the Cougars most versatile players.
- Trey Baker - 6'2", 160-pound RHP/3B who will be one of the top pitchers and hitters on the roster.
- Trent Filter - 5'10", 160-pound OF who is a good left-handed contact hitter and solid defensive outfielder.
- Bryce Betz - 5'11", 195-pound backstop who has made a verbal commitment to Lebanon Valley.
Class of 2014:
- Mitchel Sauley - 5'9", 185-pound RHP/3B who is a solid hitter and will see significant innings on the mound.
- Colin Gurt - 5'10", 160-pound 1B is a solid defensive player and left-handed contact hitter.
