Preseason Preview: New London HS

With eight starters returning from last season's 20-8 squad, New London HS is set to compete for the Firelands Conference title and potentially make a run in the Division III state tournament.
Head Coach Glen Morse will put together a lineup that features a blend of seniors and a few talented underclassmen. If the pieces come together, expect New London to compete with Plymouth, Ashland Crestview, and Norwalk St. Paul for a division title.
Class of 2013
- OF/LHP, Cory Smith – The left-handed hitter compiled a .484 average with fifteen stolen bases and 31 runs scored.
- RHP/2B, Dane Held – The right-handed hitter compiled a .418 average with 20 RBI, 25 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases.
- C/OF, Clay Wilson – The right-handed hitter compiled a .340 average with 18 RBI, 24 stolen bases, and 31 runs scored.
- 3B/2B, Keaton Ruggles – The right-handed hitter compiled a .321 average with 23 RBI, nine stolen bases, and 25 runs scored.
Class of 2014
- 1B/OF, Nick Thomas – The left-handed hitting prospect put together a .424 average last season with 28 RBI, 27 stolen bases, 32 runs scored, a .518 on base percentage and a .602 slugging percentage.
- LHP/OF/1B, Corey Haswell – The southpaw has the potential to be New London’s number one this spring.
- SS/2B/RHP, Nick Bene – The junior shows potential to make an impact in the pitching rotation.
Class of 2015
- C/SS, Josh Hamilton- The left-handed hitting prospect compiled a .429 average during his freshman campaign with 28 RBI, 16 stolen bases, 25 runs scored, a .479 on base percentage and a .546 slugging percentage.
- 1B/3B, Julian Molnar
- 2B/3B, Derek Phillips
Class of 2016
- SS/RHP, DJ Yates – The young prospect might fight for some varsity time this spring.
- RHP/C/3B, Justin Chaffins – Comes from a good lineage as both brothers have played college baseball.
