Preseason ID Recap:

Several quality players identified themselves this past Saturday at our 2022 Preseason ID Showcase at Madison County SportsZone. As we move closer to the start of the spring season here’s a look at a few that stood out and should begin to draw considerable attention from college coaches.

Uncommitted seniors Marvin and Marcus Jackson of Richland both look the part with very athletic frames. Both showed consistent, well balanced swings from each side of the plate, with exit velocities reaching into the low 90’s. Marvin recorded an event best 3.84 time to 1st base, while Marcus ran an impressive 4.07. These guys should provide lots of stress to opposing teams this season for the Rangers.

Reed McCrillis (2023) of Madison Central carries a very large and imposing frame with him. The 6-5 230lb first baseman displayed some impressive pop on Saturday with an event high 96 mph exit velocity, while using quiet hands that rode the zone very well with good extension. The Jaguars should get some production out of McCrillis on the mound as well. The junior worked into the low 80’s with a curveball that showed good depth and feel for the bottom of the strike zone.

Banks Teater (2025) of Magee was arguably the most impressive player at the event. The freshman used quick hands and a very aggressive approach at the plate to record quality exit velocities with a high of 93 mph! Teater was equally impressive behind the plate showing quick, controlled feet and a strong arm, registering an event best 1.97 pop time.

Ty Wiggins (2025) of Lamar School is another freshman to keep an eye on. The lean right handed pitcher used fluid, loose arm action working up to 81 mph with his fastball along with developing feel for his slider and change-up. Wiggins also showed off his switch hitting ability with a solid line drive approach from each side of the plate.
