Preseason Bubble Teams: Glenwood
March 4, 2019
The Illinois high school baseball season kicks off on March 11, opening day for regular season action under IHSA regulations. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2019 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, leading into a countdown through the official PBR Illinois Preseason Power 25 Rankings.
Perennially, we’ve submitted a Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

OUTLOOK
Looking at this spring’s club, the biggest question is how will they replace RHP Jacob Maton, the top ranked 2018 pitcher in the state. There certainly won’t be one guy to just that, so head coach Pat Moomey will rely on strength in numbers. Senior RHP’s Gavin Wahlbrink and Evan Rightnowar return with plenty of varsity experience, as does junior’s RHP Drew Detmers. All three are talented arms that should be able to match up with anyone in Class 3A. Wahlbrink, a Lincoln Land CC commit, who also will see time as a position player, pounds the zone with a quality three-pitch mix. Rightnowar, a Snead State CC commit, has a strong arm and has the potential to over power lineups when he is sharp. Detmers, has a quick arm and threw plenty of meaningful innings as a sophomore last spring.
The Titans offense will look for a balanced attack this spring but will have to replace key pieces in OF’s Cole Hembrough and Todd Fowler. Both were instrumental in last season 32-win club. Look for senior’s OF Adam Holm, 1B Jacob Jurgens, C Jalen Ping and 2B Nolan Rooney to carry the load this spring. Also, look for junior’s C Lucas Ryan and OF Luke Lehnen to step up and get an opportunity to contribute.
The 2019 club should be quite a bit different than last season but they have the depth and arms to hang with any Class 3A team come playoff time.
