Preseason All State Spotlight 2018 C Julio Cortez

On January 27th, 2018 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, 100 of the top high school prospects ranging from the 2018-2021 classes will participate in Preseason All-State which is the premier kickoff event for the 2018 spring high school season. Preseason All-State will feature high-end draft talent, numerous Division 1 recruits, and some of the top uncommitted underclassman in the state.

Leading up to the event we will highlight each upcoming participant through their own individual spotlight which includes video, reports, and more. Today we take a look at 2018 C Julio Cortez of American Heritage HS, FL.

 


Scouting Report

07/17/17- Committed to the University of South Florida.

05/28/17 - Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 218 pounds with a strong, solid frame. Balanced approach at the plate with strength in his swing when he squares it up. Makes hard contact. Showed the ability to use all of the field when he took a pitch the other way for a bases clearing double during the game. 

3/2/16- 6-foot-1, 210-pounder with a big, strong, blocky, catchers body. Stronger lower half and moves well behind the plate for his size. Throws down to 2B were on line and accurate, quick release. Blocked most of any pitches in the dirt. At the plate, he showed some loft, extension, and a direct path to the ball with some power. Barrels it and makes hard contact. Crushed a HR over the LF wall during the game and had a couple of deep fly outs in his other at bats.

9/26/15- Strong, stalky, and thick frame. Open stance at the plate with high hands . Gets a small separation and hand trigger for his load. Average bat speed with a nice swing plane.The ball jumps off his bat. 2.15 pop time.
