DEER PARK, TX - The District 22-6a game that matched two-20 win teams did not disappoint. The Memorial Mavericks had that never give up attitude. Down 1-0 in the top of the 7th, Memorial was able to score two runs and defeat District leading Deer Park 2-1. The rally was started with a walk, and two singles. Senior 3-hole hitter, Kyle Hargrove, battled with the bases loaded and 1 out. With a 3-2 count, Hargrove drilled a laser line-drive off reliever Adrian Gonzales. Josiah Ortiz came on in relief and walked Brennon Kattner for the game winning run. The game was a classic pitchers duel between Peyton Sherlin (Dallas Baptist recruit), and Pasadena Memorial’s Bubba Baxa. Both pitchers were equally impressive. Sherlin was composed and in control of the strike zone all night. Baxa was your classic competitor that was looking at losing the game 1-0 on a bad hop single, before the Mavericks stole the game in the 7th. Mason Mahoney closed the game in relief of Baxa, striking out Clay Aguilar (Houston recruit), looking to end the game and record the save. In a game that had several big at-bats and huge plays, the night belonged to Bubba Baxa who went 2-3 at the plate and got the win after pitching 6 strong innings.
