PBRT Southeast Regional: Weekend Standouts
September 20, 2021
The PBRT Southeast Regional was held this past weekend at the Hoover Met Complex in Hoover, AL that consisted of some of the top travel programs that the southeast has to offer. There were plenty of talented players on hand that competed against one another over a span of two days that saw some rainy weather, but were still able to be played thanks to the artificial turf fields at the complex. We’ve highlighted and included video on some of the top performers from each age division from this event that ran on Saturday & Sunday. We’d like to thank all players, coaches, parents, and PBR Tournaments for sticking it out and making this tournament possible.
Class of 2022
+ Noah Berry, RHP, James Clemens (AL), 2022
Pitching in some difficult conditions, the recent Samford recruit continued to look sharp against a tough lineup in his start for Stix Baseball. A long & lanky 6-5, 195-pounder, Berry was effective sinking an 86-88 mph fastball into the hands of right-handed hitters and down in the zone for the duration of his short outing. He flashed average feel to land a low-70’s breaking ball for strikes, and worked well off of his fastball with the same arm speed. A member of Team Alabama at the Southeast Unsigned Senior Games this July, Berry ended up turning in 2.0 innings, allowing only one hit, one run, and struck out four in a solid outing.
Battling some rain early on, #Samford recruit & ‘22 RHP Noah Berry (@NoahMB300; @JCJetsBaseball) was still effective against a tough lineup for @StixBaseball5.

Establishing a sinking FB at 86-88 mph early in counts, & showed feel to land a low-70’s BB for K’s.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/1felRFNEZ5
+ Howell Polk, RHP, Mountain Brook (AL), 2022
Going up against Berry on the other side, Polk was equally as impressive as his counterpart in his start for Excel 18U. Another member from Team Alabama at the Southeast Unsigned Senior Games, the 6-1, 175-pound right-hander mixed & matched three above average offerings for strikes in his outing. Early in the outing, his fastball played in the mid-80’s for the majority of his outing, and touched 88 mph in the 1st frame. Slider showed some sweeping action to it in the mid-70’s and generated some swing-and-miss to both-sided hitters. Also featured a changeup that tended to slow his arm action a bit, but was still an effective third offering.
.@PBR_Uncommitted ‘22 RHP Howell Polk (@HowellPolk; @MB_Baseball) showing a solid feel for all three early on for @ExcelBaseball.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 18, 2021
Sitting in the mid-80’s & touched 88 mph in the 1st. Late bite to a mid-70’s SL & feel to locate a sinking CH.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/7uSedsTCgo
+ Davis Gillespie, 3B, Oak Mountain (AL), 2022
It was another impressive showing at the plate for Gillespie, a Southern Miss recruit, hitting in the middle of the order for Oak Mountain Expos. Gearing up for his last season of his high school career at Oak Mountain, the 6-2, 195-pounder has made some notable strides in terms of physicality to his frame, while still maintaining the same athletic ability. He was consistently on the barrel this weekend, and capped it off with a couple of hits on Sunday. He showed plenty of bat speed from the right side, but was able to control the barrel well all weekend.
#SouthernMiss recruit & ‘22 3B Davis Gillespie (@Gillespie_Davis) continues to hit at a high level in each look as he laces a single through the left side for @ExposOak.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Former Future Gamer & No. 11 in the AL ‘22 class.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/pt8oNGVCcZ
+ Fisher Moss, RHP, Bob Jones (AL), 2022
After an impressive summer that resulted in an invite to the Southeast Unsigned Senior Games with Team Alabama and a commitment to Snead State CC, Moss looked sharp in his short start for Stix Baseball. Living in the mid-80’s and touching 86 mph a few times, Moss showed excellent arm speed coming out of a H ¾ slot that induced natural arm side run. He was able to seemingly spin a sharp mid-70’s breaking ball (2500 rpm’s) at will during the outing, generating some uncomfortable at-bat’s for opposing hitters as he struck out four over 2.0 scoreless innings.
.@SneadBaseball recruit & ‘22 RHP Fisher Moss (@FisherMoss2022; @BJHSBaseball) continuing to build off a strong summer circuit.

+ Samuel Pace, RHP, Russellville (AL), 2022
Coming off a successful junior campaign for the 5A State Champions, Pace navigated his way through a difficult lineup in his start for BlackSox Baseball (Black). A physical 6-4, 215-pounder, Pace worked at an up-tempo delivery using a deceptive ¾ slot that gave way to an 80-84 mph fastball during his outing. Showed excellent confidence in a tighter breaking ball with short action in low-70’s that he commanded for strikes in any count. He was forced to deal with a rain delay, but was still effective coming out of the delay in a strong start.
.@PBR_Uncommitted ‘22 RHP Samuel Pace (@Sam102703; @RussellvilleBB) working quick & efficient early on for @BlackSoxBBall.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Physical 6-4, 215-pounder mixing in 80-84 mph fastballs & a tight breaker in the low-70’s for strikes.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/OZKcg2cRQX
+ Walker Morgan, 1B/RHP, Next Level Academy (AL), 2022
Being one of the more physically impressive players at the tournament this weekend, Morgan had one of the loudest swings of the weekend for Triton Rays. Listed at 6-7, 240-pounds, the talented two-way took advantage of a low-80’s fastball left over the heart of the plate, getting full extension on the baseball and blasting it off the left-field fence for a standup double on Sunday. He’s also a talented arm on the mound, as well, with a fastball that’s been up into the upper-80’s on occasions.
.@PBR_Uncommitted ‘22 1B/RHP Walker Morgan (@WalkerMorgan9) almost goes big fly for @NLA_Rays, but settles for a standup double off the LF wall.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Physical presence in the box at 6-7, 240-pounds that’s been up into the upper-80’s on the bump.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/XsF0LmSIvz
+ Andrew Floyd, RHP, Chelsea (AL), 2022
A recent Southern Union CC commitment, Floyd put one of the better fastballs on display in his start on Sunday for Excel 18U. Listed at 5-7, 145-pounds, the right-hander possesses some electric arm speed, as he touched 89 mph in the 1st inning of his outing, but worked in the mid-80’s with good life for the majority of his outing. Didn’t show it much early on, but his slider had plenty of horizontal break & sweep to it and has a chance to be an above average offering in the future. Should be a solid back-end guy in the future.
.@Bison_BSB recruit & ‘22 RHP Andrew Floyd (@Floyd_0311; @CHSHornetBBall) establishing the fastball early on for @ExcelBaseball.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Opens up with a handful of 87’s, and touched 89 mph in the 1st with plenty of life (2300 rpm’s).#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/XgjH0H2DYW
+ Collin Perkins, MIF, Scottsboro (AL), 2022
Hitting in the middle of the order for a very offensive Goats Baseball squad, Perkins was a consistent run-producer throughout the tournament, especially on Sunday. A 5-10, 170-pounder with average athleticism, Perkins logged two extra base hits for the Goats, one being this triple into the pull side gap. In his next at-bat, the uncommitted senior split the back side gap for a double. Another Southeast Unsigned Senior Games attendee from this summer who plays the game hard.
.@PBR_Uncommitted ‘22 MIF Collin Perkins (@CollinPerkins4; @SHSBaseball4) gets into this one & drives it into the pull side gap for a triple for @GoatsBaseballAL.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/OJW7gAcKKh
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
+ Logan James, SS/RHP, Deshler (AL), 2022
Did a great job working the counts and making the opposing pitchers work. Drilled a two-strike pitch right back up the middle for a base knock for BlackSox Baseball, extended the inning and later came through to score. Present strength in the lower-half with a clean barrel through the zone, and patrolled the middle of the infield well all weekend for BlackSox.
‘22 SS/RHP Logan James (@LoganJa63995049; @DeshlerBaseball) displays a great two-strike approach here and shoots it right back where it came from for a single to extend the @BlackSoxBBall inning. #PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/uNb8wuVJFo
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
+ Canyon Pace, C, Russellville (AL), 2022
The Union University recruit made some noise with the barrel this weekend in Hoover for BlackSox Baseball, displaying his 96 mph exit velocity that he’s shown at previous PBR events. The 6-0, 200 pound sturdy frame showed the ability to work counts and simplify his approach when needed, shooting a two-strike liner back up the middle during one of his at-bats for a single early on Sunday.
.@UUAthleticsBB recruit & ‘22 C Canyon Pace (@PaceCanyon; @RussellvilleBB) with a loud barrel here, shoots one up the middle for a single. #PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/GvO9U3CTR1
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 18, 2021
+ Joseph Thallas, OF, East Limestone (AL), 2022
6-0, 160 pound lean, athletic frame, started in a balanced crouched stance with a short, quick load. Got the BlackSox offense on a hot start, displayed a nice approach by fouling multiple pitches off and taking a two-strike pitch into right-field for a big RBI single.

Class of 2023
+ Ty Sanderson, C/IF, Grissom (AL), 2023
One of the top left-handed bats in the junior class in Alabama, Sanderson continued to look hitterish into this weekend playing for Goats Baseball. A primary catcher, but may profile on the infield in the future, the left-hander started off his tournament hot with a missile back up the middle for a single in one of his at-bat’s on Saturday. The barrel stays in the zone for a while and has above average bat speed, while being able to use the whole field in his approach. Covers the plate very well and always seems to make solid contact, regardless of the arm.
‘23 C/IF Ty Sanderson (@TySanderson3; @GrissomBSB) continues to show off one of the more polished left-handed bats in the junior class.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 18, 2021
Picks out a fastball early in the count & shoots one up the middle for a single for @GoatsBaseballAL.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/drjirIYUe6
+ Mykell Murrah, MIF/RHP, Elkmont (AL), 2023
One player that may be flying under the radar in the junior class is Murrah, who continues to show well at each look at the plate and on the mound. An athletic 5-10, 165-pounder who plays with bounce and twitchy movements around the field. Attacks the ball at the plate using a flat plane through the zone and good rhythm allows him to be on time for all arms this weekend. Sure hands defensively at shortstop with range, and also ran his fastball up to 85 mph on the mound in a relief stint.
‘23 SS/RHP Mykell Murrah (@MykellMurrah; @ElkmontHS) singles sharply back up the middle for @GoatsBaseballAL using a flat plane through the zone.

Twitchy athleticism at 5-10, 165-pounds.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/NYl5qJtz9S
+ Zach Chaney, 3B, Priceville (AL), 2023
It was easy this weekend to see the strides that Chaney has made over the past year after seeing him at a scout day in 2020. Strong 5-10, 180-pounder that stood out hitting in the middle of a talented Goats Baseball lineup. Balanced setup hitting from the right side of the plate with present strength throughout his frame, giving way to some power. Singled in the video below, as he pulled his hands in and got on plane early to handle an inner-half fastball with ease for a hard liner to left field. Should project for more power as he continues to fill out and add strength.
‘23 C/3B Zack Chaney (@ZachChaney11; @PHSBulldogs_BSB) gets on plane early & smokes a two-RBI single into LF for @GoatsBaseballAL.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/E5270iR2JK

+ Garrett Calhoun, 1B/OF, Handley (AL), 2023
A lot to like from the physical, strong 6-0, 185 pound built frame, laced an RBI double down the left-field line to extend the Excel Baseball lead. Took some aggressive swing all weekend using a controlled barrel through the zone. Balanced setup at the plate with minimal movement pre-pitch gives way to potential to hit for more power down the road.

— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
+ CJ Bush, OF, Bob Jones (AL), 2023
Found the barrel several times this weekend for Knights South. Short simple swing, laced a two-RBI knock down the left-field line and also displayed his 6.84 speed around the bases that led to a triple in order to get his team on the board early on. He possesses some high-level athleticism with some twitchy actions, but is strong enough to hit for power and extra bases.

Class of 2024
+ Carter Johnson, SS/RHP, Oxford (AL), 2024
Regarded as one of the top players in the current sophomore class, Johnson continues to elevate his game at each look and show that he belongs near the top. A projectable 6-0, 155-pound frame with plenty of mass to be added in the future, the left-handed hitting middle infielder set the tone in each game for Excel 16U. Starts in an upright/tall stance before using a rhythmic load used to be able to get down on time. Covers all parts of the zone and adjusted well mid-swing to an offspeed offering in one at-bat to send a sharply-hit liner back up the middle for a single. Smoothest of swings that hits for average and defends up the middle just as good. Also has been in the mid-80’s on the mound. Talented two-way prospect who has picked up plenty of Division 1 interest recently.
‘24 SS/RHP Carter Johnson (@CarterReed24; @OldGoldBB) continues to establish himself as a one of the better hitters in the class.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Smooth load w/ balanced setup from left side. On the barrel here for a single for @ExcelBaseball.
No. 9 in the ‘24 AL class.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/ZiTpOthSJ4
+ Reid Gaston, LHP, Hartfield Academy (MS), 2024
One of the more high profile arms on display this weekend, and this southpaw didn’t disappoint in his start for SBG Sox 2024. A durable 6-3, 205-pounder, Gaston jumped out physicality in comparison to most, and that strength carried over to when he toed the rubber. Pitching from a shorter arm action, Gaston pumped 83-85 mph through the zone early on with some natural cutting action, especially when located to the glove side. Slider was firm with tunneling action in the mid-70’s, and missed plenty of barrels in the outing.
‘24 LHP Reid Gaston (Hartfield Academy) opens up with a scoreless frame working an effortless 83-85 mph to both sides for @SBGSox. Tunnels the slider well in the mid-70’s.

High upside at 6-3, 205. No. 7 in the ‘24 MS class, per @PBR_Mississippi.#PBRTSERegional | @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/LiRKsMUEHT
+ Drew Lambert, SS/RHP, Madison-Ridgeland (MS), 2024
Another talented player on the SBG Sox 2024 squad, Lambert made a big impact both at the plate and on the mound all weekend. A long & rangy 6-0, 150-pounder who showed a present feel for the barrel with a level path from the right side. Solid footwork up the middle defensively with adequate arm strength across. Came on in relief later in that same game, and showed an excellent ability to spin the breaking ball for strikes. Clean operation & mover on the mound that touched 82 mph in his outing, collecting a high number of strikeouts.
Good sequence here from ‘24 RHP/SS Drew Lambert (Madison-Ridgeland Academy; @PBR_Mississippi) to close out a win for @SBGSox.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Up to 82 mph w/ more to come, but ability to spin in any count set him apart as he punched out the side.
Wiry, athletic 6-0, 150.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/jY6p9IBx7D
+ Brett Moseley, OF, Hewitt-Trussville (AL), 2024
Another talented left-handed bat that made an impact offensively for Excel 16U this weekend. Listed at 6-2, 165-pounds, Moseley has a chance to be one of the better prospects when it’s all said and done in the next few years. Upright stance and uses a short, compact stroke to spray to all fields. Went back side to the gap in the at-bat below, and showed some impressive straight-line speed running from 1st to 2nd. Covers a ton of ground patrolling center field.
‘24 OF Brett Moseley (@BrettMoseley1; @Hewitt_Baseball) has some intriguing upside at 6-2, 165-pounds.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Uses an accurate barrel through the zone to connect for a two-RBI double for @ExcelBaseball.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/iFCQqkPON1
+ Mitchell Parimore, Jr., LHP, Brighton (TN), 2024
Coming on in relief for SBG Sox 2024, Parimore was another intriguing arm that caught the attention of our scouts this weekend. A 6-2, 175-pound southpaw, Parimore tossed back-to-back scoreless frames using a low-80’s fastball that touched 84 mph in his first inning with sink to the bottom of the zone. Using a clean arm action with consistent mechanics, it should certainly hint for more velocity over the next few years. Showed some feel early on in his outing to command an upper-60’s breaking ball to the backfoot of right-handed hitters with 1-7 shape.
‘24 LHP Mitchell Parimore, Jr. (Brighton; @PBRTennessee) is another quality arm on @SBGSox’s staff, as he tosses a scoreless inning of relief.
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 19, 2021
Touched 84 mph while sitting 80-82 mph & moving it around the zone. Spins an upper-60’s breaking ball with confidence.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/RRfrX24MIX
+ Colin Jenkins, RHP, Simpson Academy (MS), 2024
A former Future Gamer this past summer with Team Mississippi, Jenkins got the nod in Game 2 for the SBG Sox 2024 squad and showcased a lot to build on in the future. Listed at 6-3, 173-pounds, the right-hander also worked up to 84 mph, but has been up to 88 mph this summer at the PBR Future Games with good life through the zone. Breaking ball showed solid downer action with some feel to bury in chase counts for swing-and-miss.
‘24 RHP Colin Jenkins (Simpson Academy; @PBR_Mississippi) worked up to 84 mph in his outing for @SBGSox while sitting in the low-80’s. Located breaking ball for strikes w/ solid vertical break.

Former #PBRFG21 attendee with more in the tank at 6-2, 175-pounds.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/Hp0bwiTbbK
+ Eli Cannon, OF, Corner (AL), 2024
One player who seemed to do it all this weekend for Excel 16U was Cannon, who logged a couple of base hits and tossed a complete-game effort on the bump in another contest. From the left side, the lean 6-0, 165-pounder uses a short & simple stroke to hit for average to all fields. He’s got good barrel awareness and always seems to get off good swings & make solid contact. On the mound, he was equally efficient with a fastball that was up to 80 mph & getting swing-and-miss with his breaking ball in late counts using a clean, polished delivery.
‘24 OF Eli Cannon (@EliCannon19; @Corner_Baseball) stays short here & laces a two-RBI single back up the middle for @ExcelBaseball.#PBRTSERegional pic.twitter.com/cUjxGzBR5k
— PBR Alabama (@PBR_Alabama) September 18, 2021
+ Cameron Palahach, C, Hartselle (AL), 2024
Using a compact frame at 5-9, 170-pounds with present strength in the lower-half, Palahach took some aggressive swings at the plate, resulting in a couple extra base hits on the weekend. Gets down on time early using a rhythmic pre-load, before shooting quick & explosive hand speed through the zone to impact the baseball. Present pop to the pull side, as he showed with a double down the line for SBG Sox 2024 on Sunday.
Two aggressive swings in this at-bat coming from ‘24 C Cameron Palahach (@C_Palahach27; @HHS_Baseball1).

+ Forrest Heacock, C/2B, Oxford (AL), 2024
Sparked the Excel Baseball offense and got them rolling with a RBI double that just skips over the third base bag and finds its way down the left-field line for an easy stand-up double. Swings a whippy barrel through the zone & impacts the baseball with solid strength. Compact 5-8, 160-pounder with a balanced setup at the plate with minimal movement on pre-pitch allows him to be on time.
