PBR Success Stories: 2020 C Bennett Lee

Colin Gray
PBR Florida

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to provide athletes with a platform to showcase their talents and be able to play baseball at the next level. One of the biggest events for uncommitted players is the PBR Future Games. The Future Games is an event for uncommitted sophomores and juniors that allows them to represent their home state and showcase themselves in front of over 300 college coaches. Over the last three years, 45 players from the Future Games have gone on to commit to play college baseball.

We wanted to look back at the 2018 Future Games which featured 18 players committing to play college baseball. The players from the 2018 team will be heading into their freshman year of college next year and we wanted to ask them about their time with Prep Baseball Report. Today, we talked to 2020 C Bennett Lee about the 2018 Future Games and the impact PBR events made on his commitment to Tulane.

Bennett Lee, C, Jesuit, 2020, Tulane

Tulane signee and Jesuit graduate Bennett Lee was a member of Team Florida at the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Futures Games. Bennett ranks No. 76 in the PBR Florida Class of 2020 rankings, and No.8 overall in the state of Florida for class of 2020 catchers.

Question:

What was the experience like attending the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Future Games?

Answer:

Attending the Future Games was a great experience. I had never seen so many college coaches at an event before. It truly was top-notch exposure. Also, getting to know kids from across the country and compete against them was very cool.

Question:

How has attending PBR showcases helped you become recruited by Tulane?

Answer:

The PBR showcases I have attended were a great way to get my name out there. Because the PBR scouts had seen me play before, they reported about me during the high school season, which was when I came in contact with Tulane.

Question:

While working with PBR to become recruited, what are some things that stood out to you?

Answer:

One thing that stood out to me is the importance of the saying, “You never who’s watching.” Learning this lesson early through PBR showcases paid great dividends in my recruiting process. Another thing that stood out to me was getting to know the PBR scouts. They are very knowledgeable about the game and truly care about the players.

Scouting Report

08/04/18- An athletic 6-foot-, 190 pounds, Lee has a lot of all around upside. Defensively, he has some quick twitch actions, with flexibility and ability to receive. He has an above average feel for the position and consistently showed the ability to get into a quality position to receive. He has a quick, clean transfer and throws have carry with pop times 2.01-2.15 and has been as low as 1.92. Offensively, he stands tall and trusts his hands while creating leverage and staying balanced with the lower half. There is present barrel awareness and ability to hit, with present gap to gap power with more to come as he matures.

07/14/18- Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 190 pounds with a solid, athletic frame and strong lower half. Showed offensive potential and a feel for the barrel during batting practice when he sprayed line drives all over, going gap-to-gap. He is upright and simple. The swing generates bat whip and leverage and should develop into above average power. Was also equally if not more impressive behind the plate where he threw out two base runners at second, one time from his knees. He has an above average feel for the position. Flexible with strong wrists and ability to receive, block and throw. Overall, very high ceiling and high follow and shouldn’t be uncommitted long.

06/03/18- Uncommitted. Stood out offensively where he showed a confident approach and a feel for the barrel. Shows gap-to-gap potential with more power to come as he fills out his frame. Had a multiple hit game with line drives into left field and up the middle. Good uncommitted follow.
