PBR Spotlight Game: Mississauga North Tigers 18u vs East York Bulldogs 18u
MISSISSAUGA- Saturday was day two of the inaugural Midget Elite League Showcase Tournament that saw action between the Mississauga North Tigers 18U and the East York Bulldogs 18U at River Grove Park. The Bulldogs walked off with the victory 6-5.
East York got on the board first in the home half of the second thanks to a leadoff double by right fielder Matt Wilkins to the left-centre gap, he later scored on a wild pitch.
Mississauga responded in the third with a pair of base hits that lead to two runs, including an RBI single by third baseman Jake Ervin and the Tigers lead 2-1.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom half of the inning by manufacturing a run with a sacrifice bunt and coming around to score a throwing error. They would add to their lead in the fourth with three runs lead by second baseman Evan Neff’s two-run triple to make it 5-2.
The Tigers would not give up though. After cutting the lead to 5-3 in the fifth, they would battle hard in the seventh by working two walks and Ervin’s two-run double tied the game 5-5.
The Bulldogs had the bases loaded with nobody out and the winning run only 90 feet away. The Tigers bring the infield in and it worked to their advantage as a ground ball was induced and turned the 6-2-3 double play. But left fielder Luke Gazmin managed to line a base hit up the middle for the walk-off win.
East York right-handed starter Jack O’Connor went six and two-thirds innings allowing five runs on five hits, while striking out five and picked up a no-decision. Left-handed pitcher Jezriel Martinez went one-third of an inning and picked up the win.
