PBR Scout Day: Charlotte MegaStars - Statistical Analysis

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

PBR was at Olympic High School in Charlotte earlier this week to run a scout day for the Charlotte MegaStars.  During the event, players were run through a full pro-style workout, including a laser timed 60, defensive work at their primary position, cage time, producing an exit velocity, and live BP on the field.

PBR scouts, as well as several college coaches, were on hand to collect the information and begin to put evaluations on the players present.  Select players will also receive a professionally edited video to their PBR Profile page.

Today we break down some of the top performances from the workout.   All of the numbers below were generated at the MegaStar Scout Day on June 5th.  CLICK HERE to see the complete list of statistics from the event.  See below for category leaders.

Charlotte MegaStars Scout Day: Statistical Analysis

Top 60 Yard Dash Times

The sixty was run in the outfield at Olympic HS on a natural grass surface.  PBR used a laser timer to record the 60 yard times.  Below are the top performances from the MegaStar Scout Day.

Top Exit Velocity

Position players were able to hit in the cages prior to their live BP.  One of the stations during BP was an exit velocity station where players were hitting a stationary ball off of a tee.  A radar gun positioned behind the tee recorded the exit velocity off of the barrel.  Below are the top exit velocities from the MegaStar Scout Day.

Top Positional Velocity - Infielders

Infielders were able to workout at SS and 1B, receiving ground balls and working to make positional throws.  A radar gun was used to record arm strength during this phase of the evaluation.  The top infield arms are below.

Top Positional Velocity - Outfielders

Outfielders worked out from right field making multiple throws to the plate where arm strength, carry, and accuracy could all be measured.  A radar gun was used to measure arm strength.   The top readings from the MegaStar Scout Day are below.

Top Catcher Pop Times

Five catchers worked out behind the plate, simulating throws to 2B with a runner stealing.  Middle infielders were asked to straddle 2B and let the ball ride to their body before receiving.  Coaches and scouts are recording the time it takes for the ball to hit the catchers glove until the ball hits the middle infielders glove.  The top 3 times from the MegaStar Scout Day are below.

Top Max Fastball

Pitchers threw controlled bullpens, going through their entire arsenal in front of the coaches and scouts in attendance.  Below are the top fastballs recorded at the Scout Day, during the bullpen settings.
