PBR JUCO Player Rankings: Greyson Shafer

Brett Harrison
PBR Scouting Director

Junior College talent was well represented in the 2022 MLB Draft, with 33 players from the NJCAA ranks earning selections during the three-day event. The first three names to come off the board – Chipola (FL) 3B Cam Collier (1st round, Reds), Crowder (MO) RHP Jacob Misiorowski (2nd, Brewers) and Northwest Florida St. RHP Jake Madden (4th, Angels) – were also PBR JUCO’s top-three-ranked prospects heading into the season.

Curated by the PBR JUCO staff, the Top 150 list is the product of first-hand scouting, data analysis, and conversations with coaches, scouts and other members from across the baseball industry. It reflects how these players are viewed as MLB Draft prospects heading into the 2023 season.

PBR JUCO will expand on the Top 150 in the coming weeks, providing in-depth scouting reports for the top names on this year’s list. After that, we'll unveil our rankings for the top Pitchers and Position Players, respectively, followed by more rankings and analysis at the state and regional levels.

The PBR JUCO Scout Day Season consisted of over 50 unique Scout Days all over the country with the best players stacked up against the best using the games latest technology in TrackMan, Blast Motion and Swift Performance. College of Southern Idaho and BYU Signee, Greyson Shafer, put together one of the top overall Scout Day performances this past Fall where he landed at or near the top of almost every statistical category that applied to him. This Scout Day, along with a standout 2022 campaign, helped him earn his prestigious spot among the Top 150 Junior College prospects in the country at #78 overall. Having his college commitment to Brigham Young University already secured, the focuses now begins to shift to the MLB Draft where his Scout Day metrics paired with his physical size and strength at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, he has the frame and build ready for that level. Shafer will be a very exciting follow this Spring as he looks to improve on his freshman campaign that saw him finish the year strong with a .316 average to go with his 11 homeruns. Stay tuned for an exciting Spring for this Idaho native.
