By: Kevin Cronin and Diego Solares
Illinois Scouting Staff

On Thursday, September 23, the PBR Illinois scouting staff held the Heartland Community College Scout Day at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois. All the prospects in attendance showcased their talents in front of our staff, including a handful of other scouts that attended.

Now, at the event’s conclusion, we’re eager to pump out content pertaining to what we saw from the day. Inside this piece we’ll publish those who paced the event in our traditional statistical categories, such as the top 60-yard dash, max throwing velocities, and other numbers gathered through our staff.

We’ll also roll out more analysis as the week rolls on, like a takeaways piece from the day and deeper data dives with the statistics collected from our technological partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion.

For now, take a look at which players turned in noteworthy statistical outputs.

STAT STORY

+ Heartland started their scout day with nine running under a sub-7.00 in the 60-yard dash, led by OF Quinn Willard (Cornerstone Christian Academy, 2021). The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Willard oozes athleticism, running an event high 6.50 in the 60-yard dash and using that explosive twitch to generate loud contact in BP, barreling his best ball up at 101 mph. Willard also topped at 88 mph from the outfield, further completing his high-octane skill set.

+ INF Sam Antonacci (Sacred Heart-Griffin, 2021) represented Team Illinois at the PBR Future Games a few years ago and the left-handed hitter was amongst the top infielders in attendance from the event. A 6-foot, 185-pound freshman, Antonacci finished in the top five for several different of our statistical categories. He ran a 6.81 in the 60-yard dash, recorded a max exit velocity of 101 mph in BP, and threw an 87 mph bullet across the infield, too.

+ A toolsy, high level athlete from Wisconsin, OF Jacyk Uehling (South Milwaukee, 2020) continues to show explosive twitch on the diamond. He recorded the hardest throw from the outfield at 94 mph and also juiced one up at 102 mph off the barrel in BP, per TrackMan.

+ The Hawks had three arms who recorded a max fastball over 90 mph, led by RHP Mitchell Sampson (Galesburg, 2020), who topped at 93 mph. RHP Keegan Buska (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2021) and RHP Reese Dutton (Tremper, WI; 2019) each peaked at 90 mph in their ‘pens.
